I think the ad hits the right note. I doubt very much that going negative will help anything at all. California was lost yes, but anyone could see that would happen months out, i doubt very much the ads had much to do with anything.

Well if they want independance from outsiders, they sure won't have that with us. We are outsiders, not even :"virtually normal" as Andrea Sullivan would say. We're a minority who need to assert our right to live in this country with others. Normal my ass!

@Chitown Kev: I don't know. I am not an AD man, but my instinct from having been in Maine for childhood summers is that the Erdgeist is more about strong independence from outsiders. That is the energy i would have tapped in an Ad, I think. Something like "A group of religious zealots and bigots are telling us how to treat our neighbors".

That ad probably would be inappropriate for CA but is it inappropriate for Maine?

@Fitz: I agree the ad is too polite, this approach will not work. I had to watch it twice to be sure there were gay people in it. Injustice is the most important issue to point out in these ads.

I disagree. The ad is polite and pleasant- and that is how NCLR lost it in CA. The ADs need to identify the importance of singling out an unpopular group legally, and they need to call bigots BIGOTS. This tea & cookies approach is doomed. Trust me, I live in CA.
