You’ll never guess what crazy things Russian President Vladimir Putin is saying this week!
Ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics taking place in Sochi next month, the notoriously anti-gay madman is showing his softer side in an interview with BBC. In addition to claiming some European countries are moving toward legalizing pedophilia, Putin says he has some gay friends and doesn’t believe his incredibly harmful anti-gay laws harm them at all:
I myself know some people who are gay. We’re on friendly terms…It seems to me that the law we adopted doesn’t harm anybody. What’s more, homosexual people can’t feel inferior here, because there is no professional, career or social discrimination against them.
And for the first time ever, Putin officially shades Madonna, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, and every other performer not allowed to promote “homosexual propaganda” in his country. According to him, openly gay Elton John is allowed to perform in Russia because he is “sincerely loved”:

He also reassures BBC that folks planning to protest his laws next month will not be prosecuted. However, “protest actions and propaganda are two slightly different things,” he says. No word yet on what exactly the difference is, but we’ll surely find out next month!

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got in life was to “beware the sugar that hides the evil taste”. This is Putin – a sugar-coated piece of bigotry who claims to be concerned for “the children” when what he really wants to do is to persecute those who don’t agree with his views.
He has equated homosexuality with pornography, and has used this as a pretext to attack gay people. I’d like to look into his sex life and see what’s gong on there. I wouldn’t be surprised to find some ugly things.

The truth is that Putin is a sound, sad Christian at his heart–Russian Orthodox, in fact. In his view, homosexuality is just one of the amoral “Carthaginian” insults to the virtue, high culture and noble innocence of the Christian civilization of which he considers himself and his people to be the rightful heirs and guardians. He is in fact, personally, wonderful with children and animals, gentle, kind and indulgent. And he is quite sincere in his belief that children ought to be shielded from the obscenities of “Gay Pride” orgies and Pussy Riots. He is NOT a homophobic imbecile in the sense that Antonin Scalia or the governor of Texas are.
