In 1996 then State Senatorial candidate Barack Obama signed a Windy City Times questionnaire that proclaimed, “I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages.”
But today at Netroots Netroots Nation, White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said, “If you actually go back and look, that questionnaire was actually filled out by someone else, not the President.”
When pressed on whether the questionnaire was faked, Pfeiffer dodged and said that the president’s position on marriage equality continues to evolve.
Could this be a White House attempt to distance Obama from his prior stance on marriage in order to seeming more moderate.
How about we take this to the next level?

Just because the alternative was even worse doesn’t make me love you more, Mr. Obama. George W. may forever be the worst President of my lifetime, but you, sir, are the biggest disappointment.
Obama-is-a-Liar
Obama is an despicable sack-of-shit liar. If you look at the photo-copy of the questionnaire, you will see that HE SIGNED IT! Unless he is allowing someone else to write his name, which is fraud, then this questionnaire has his bloody backstabbing filthy hands all over it.
Click on link below for the photo of the questionnaire (and the liar’s signature) from an earlier Queerty article about this scumbag…

When is Gaga going to run for President?! She’s clearly politically active and makes GREAT speeches on rights and equality 🙂 (A guy can dream….)

Mr. Obama has been no friend to the LGBT Community. He is not different from the GOP when it comes to our rights, especially marriage equality.
the crustybastard
Look, Mr. President: the issue is legal EQUALITY.
It’s binary — on or off. If you’re not in favor of legal equality, then you’re opposed to legal equality.
If you’re opposed to equality, but make room for the possibility that someday you might favor it, you’re not “evolving” — you’re still actually opposed to equality.
It’s 2011 and you’re a grownup. You’ve got a law degree. Your “evolution” should be completed. In this country at this time, if you’re opposed to legal equality despite being a minority yourself, you’re just a straight-up fucking spineless dickhead.
If, like most Democrats, you need to be out of office before you feel sufficiently evolved to embrace equality, then take comfort in the fact that I’m assisting your evolutionary process by not voting for your dumb bigoted ass again.

Wowza! How refreshing to see that so many of my gay brothers and sisters are not, in fact, Obama sycophants. Yes, the man is a fraud, and no, he doesn’t like us. Simple math: his position on gay rights “evolves” as his poll numbers sink. Hope the Republicans can come up with someone other than Romney (but alas, Chris Christie has proclaimed he will not be running next year — sigh).
Cam
Such a phony backtrack, the signitures match and the origional questionaire according to the paper was faxed from the Law Firm where Obama was.
So either….
1. he signs things without looking at them
2. there is a secretary at his old firm that can do his signiture perfect and liked to fill out things in his name without checking with him.
3. he filled it out and now, is once again just trying to distance himself from taking a stand on something.
robert in NYC
I suspect this is now surfacing so he has a clear path to run again in 2012 and avoid pressure from the gay voting bloc to declare support for it. Nobody would stand a chance of getting to the White House supporting marriage equality, not in our lifetime at least. “Evolving” is just cover to pacify some of us and give legitimacy to HRC. What is the alternative though? Bachmann, Pawlenty, Romney? Perish the thought! I wish Howard Dean would run again. I’m a Green but will probably vote for Obama reluctantly just to keep the psychotalkers out of the White House.
Jewed Law
@robert in NYC: I disagree that we won’t see a gay-marriage-friendly president in our lifetime; I think it’ll happen, just not with the clown currently in office. Lots of Democratic candidates (and even a couple Republican ones) have publicly declared support for gay causes, so I think it’s just a question of time.
An Ella Fan
@Jewed Law:
Quote: “Lots of Democratic candidates (and even a couple Republican ones) have publicly declared support for gay causes, so I think it’s just a question of time.”
Declaring support for gay causes – which Obama does – is not the same as declaring support for gay marriage.
Any presidential and most congressional candidates openly declaring support for gay marriage are dead in the water.
You can hate on Obama all you want – but the political reality is that gay marriage is a relatively small and single issue compared to other problems facing our country. While gaining popular support among our countrymen – the voting majority is against it.
Obama is pragmatic and politically he makes progress – just not as fast and dramatic as some would like.
Obama-is-a-Liar
@Cam:
I suspect it is, sadly, the #3 you listed.
Oh, and “robert in NYC”, I don’t vote for somebody just because I’m afraid of the alternative. That is like telling someone that they only have a choice of picking only between a sadistic rapist or a lying adulterous scumbag if they ever want a chance to find a wife or a husband. …Bullshit!
A Democratic president (Clinton) signed into law DADT and DOMA (neither could have passed without Democrats in congress voting for them). Also, Obama fought tooth and nail to defend DADT in the courts. He still is defending DADT after the so-called repeal, apparently because he doesn’t want a federal ruling acknowledging our “suspect” minority status that puts us into the same category as race regarding heightened scrutiny requirements in adjudicating GLBT civil rights cases. Also, he made a deal with the devils at the Pentagon to strip anti-decriminalization provisions out of DADT repeal.
So, why are we the only minority expected to trade off some of our civil rights in order to receive other civil rights (i.e. New York marriage debate). That was never asked of any other minority. For example, what would happen if some President told Black folks that you can have school desegregation if you give up fighting for interracial marriage. Really? The Republicans in the New York senate and Obama have that in common in regard to how they have abused the GLBT community. History will remember them for that.
As far as Marriage Equality goes, “Robert in NY”, poll after poll shows majority support for Marriage Equality. What “courage” does it take to support something that the majority supports now? Where is the leadership that Truman showed when he desegregated the military when huge majorities were against him doing that? Obama cannot even stand for equality in a symbolic sense and he feels now he has to lie about ever supporting us. Obama is a cowardly bigot, pure and simple — the lowest form of life.
After Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid got fed up with Obama’s indecisive, foot-dragging on DADT they introduced the Bill without him. Obama then, forced to take a position, rushed to fuck up the Bill by removing the House’s non-discrimination provisions.
Obama is the kind of date that someone takes to the prom who ditches them; then they act like they don’t know you as they suck up to hobnob with everybody else. After the prom they then have the unmitigated nerve to ask you for a ride home. People who allow pigs like Obama to wipe their ass on them make me sick to my stomach. Where is their pride?
No, I will not vote for that chickenshit Obama unless he acknowledges that he “fully supports same-sex marriage” just like he did when he was state senator Obama. I don’t believe in rewarding bad behavior as apparently some cowards without any self-respect do in the GLBT community.
BTW, don’t bring up the Supreme Court or federal judge-ships. Most pro-gay court decisions were adjudicated by republican judges. Justice Kennedy (Republican appointee) wrote the majority decision striking down the Sodomy law in Lawrence vs Texas as well as in anti-gay Amendment 2 in Romer vs Evans. So don’t go there.
I’m not a Republican, I think most are fascist pigs. I am an independent who votes for progressive of either party. I am also not a bond-servant to the Democrats. But if any of you keep acting like that then it is only human nature that they will take you for granted every single time. Make them earn your vote, and punish them when they don’t earn it.
They’ll get the message soon enough. Or, you can stay being a cowardly slave who will never get off their knees in front of their Democratic Party Masters because you’re afraid if you stand up to them they might lose their “love” for you. Face it, it’s quid pro quo all the way around. You hire them to do a job. They’re not doing you a favor by taking your money and your votes. They work for us, remember? Ask the Tea Party if they kiss the Republicans asses — it’s the other way around, and the Tea Party is a minority too.
As far as Democratic politicians go…learn to just say NO, if they say NO to us. And mean it at election time. Like I said, they’ll get the message. The mid-terms gave them a taste of that consequence when their progressive supporters stayed home. Make them earn our votes again, and keep reminding them of what happened to them in 2010 when they ignored us at their own peril.

I hate this president and just about every thing he does. If you haven’t watched the exchange that brought about this revelation, you have to. It tells us so much about how this president and his White House operates.

Hmmmmmm… because we all know that “gay marriage” is not a gay cause. Right? Perhaps, finding homes for abandoned toy poodles is? Jeeze Louise, you’re not part of the solution, your part of the problem. In a close election we own the Democrats. Why are you too brain-washed to acknowledge that? Jews are less than five percent of the population, yet let any Republican or Democrat ignore them and their issues. Both parties know better.
Apparently you think very little of yourself and your community to accept being soooooo insignificant. Stay on the Politically Powerless Plantation if you want, but don’t drag us back there by trivializing our influence. Our problem is that we’re too nice. Some of us don’t demand anything like we deserve it, like other minorities. But, if we weren’t important to the Dems, they wouldn’t even reach out to us. So, get with the program!

ENDA or bust? Obama has done a three card monte with marriage equality, and shows no sign of “evolving.”
So, we’re not going to get anywhere with him on that topic. Repiblicans won’t touch it either.
It’s high on the Big Gay Inc. agenda, but should it be number 1?
ENDA (federal) would affect the day to day lives of millions more LGB&T Americans, and I think it’s less of a hot potato. So, how about we change the focus?
We need to pressure both parties on employment protection.
Shannon1981
@Jeffree: Fully agree that ENDA is a more pressing issue, and a less threatening one to our oppressors. It doesn’t threaten their idea of family, which the types who oppose equality are hanging onto for dear life. Obviously their idea that we are a threat to them is silly, but you’d as soon tell that to your dog as to the likes of NOM supporters.

@Obama-is-a-Liar:
“Hmmmmmm… because we all know that “gay marriage” is not a gay cause.”
Don’t insult my intelligence or yours. That is not what I said or implied. Gay marriage is one “cause” and DADT, employment protections are among others.
Like it or not, currently gay marriage ain’t high on the national/political spectrum of importance. The economy, joblessness, deficit spending and engagement in two wars trumps gay marriage every time.
“Apparently you think very little of yourself and your community to accept being soooooo insignificant”
Insignificant? Where did that come from? We’re talking reality here. While a majority of Americans support gay marraige – the “voting majority” does not. Marraige victories have only happened based on legislation or court order. Not won by popular vote. Like it or not, there are other national issues fronting gay marriage.
Histrionics aside, I think quite highly of myself. I have no problem with me. However, in general, I don’t embrace all gay people as part of my “community” simply based on the fact that we are attracted to members of the same sex, nor do I always agree with all gay people politically.
Obama-is-a-Liar
@”An Ella Fan” who wrote: “Declaring support for gay causes – which Obama does – is not the same as declaring support for gay marriage.”
To which I aptly replied: Hmmmmmm… because we all know that “gay marriage” is not a gay cause. Right?
Ella also wrote: “Don’t insult my intelligence…”
——————————-
Yeah, believe me, Ella, if I ever see evidence of that, I’d be happy to insult it.
Sorry, Ella, you wrote what you wrote. Don’t be vague or misleading if you don’t expect to be corrected on it. Nevertheless, screw your silly “the voting majority isn’t for our marriage equality rights”. How the hell do you know what the next “voting majority” is going to be like in the next election? You are ASSuming that the majority of them who vote for Democrats will be homophobes, so, by extension, Obama and the Democratic party must cater to homophobes. Really? Then they don’t need us, do they?
It is nervous nellies like you and that triangulation bullshit that got the GLBT community listed as such a LOW PRIORITY on the DNC agenda in the first place. Thanks!
You see, my dear, if you can get the milk for free, why buy the cow? Everyone is a special interest, don’t let anybody tell you differently. And that is how people vote. I’d bet you anything that if you were to tell a Black man or woman in the 1960s that the Vietnam war or the job situation or the economy was more important than his/her equal rights they probably would spit you right in eye. You don’t beg to be treated as an equal, you demand it.
Thanks for weakening our community with your Obot rationalizations and for being such a sterling example of a modern day Uncle Tom. Unless the Republicans start rattles some major anti-gay sabers, then Obama is going to have a really hard time getting the GLBT community enthusiastic about putting that fraud back in the White House.
As you said, if the courts are going to be the ultimate decider on our Civil Rights, then we don’t need the likes of Obama or his ilk, now do we? By the way, don’t bring up the Supreme Court or federal judge appointments. And, as to all of the other political points you mentioned, Obama is truly a major failure as well. Nothing but an incompetent, duplicitous invertebrate.
So, yes, I’m proud to be a single issue voter when it comes to my freedom and the freedom of tens of millions of people just like me in the GLBT community. By the way, didn’t we fight a Revolutionary War on what you might call that trivial “single issue” of equality? Perhaps, you are the one who has your priorities fucked up, not us.
Obama-is-a-Liar
Correction, line eighteen should read: “Unless the Republicans start to rattle some major anti-gay sabers, then Obama is going to have a really hard time getting the GLBT community enthusiastic about putting his fraud ass back in the White House.”

Go ahead folks, vote for psychotalkers Bachmann, Pawlenty, Paul, Cain, Romney et al. None are on our side. Bachman and Pawlenty are running campaigns of hate when it comes to LGBT people. Voting for them is voting against yourselves. Forget about Ron Paul, he’s going nowhere fast and he hasn’t exactly run a campaign for equality and he’s considered a moderate? People seem to think Tea Partyers and Civil Libertarians aren’t republicans when push comes to shove. No way would either vote for a democrat, absolutely NO way. There isn’t one moderate (pro-gay rights) republican running for the presidency. Has anyone asked why? Another thing, can gay republicans and their offshoots please explain why equality is never addressed during the GOP conventions? Its supposed to be an all inclusive party according to the Log Cabin people. Since when? Has anyone from the LC ever addressed the convention? If not, why not? And another thing, if the GOP is so inclusive, why aren’t they overhwelmingly supporting marriage equality in NYS? A measly two or perhaps three? What does that say about their party when there are 29 democrats supporting it?
No. 18 Jewed Law…I’ll believe that when either side addresses it during the conventions in 2012. Not going to happen. Its political suicide since both sides play to their religion bigot base every time as we’re seeing in my state currently with the republicans trying to get a free pass for the religious nutjobs to get exemption from being sued for discrimination. No other group is subjected to such vile, disgusting treatment. The GOP in our state and in our country is controlled by them. They are calling the shots and this proves it has more to do about mob rule than anything else and the GOP condones it by remaining silent.
