WATCH: Adorable Couple Gets “The Call” They’ve Been Waiting For

To mark National Adoption month, the Family Equality Council produced The Call, a short film that highlights the emotional rollercoaster of being a same-sex couple trying to adopt. As the tide of marriage rights continues to swell nationwide (Hawaii being the latest and 15th state to embrace tying the rainbow knot), it’s easy to forget that adoption by LGBT couples is still a hurdle on the road to equality in America.

While the clip certainly succeeds in communicating that butterflies-in-the-stomach cocktail of anxiety and excitement, the reality is much uglier for thousands of same-sex couples denied adoption rights by downright douche-y laws and regulations. A sad and frustrating fact given that 400,000 children are currently in foster care awaiting new homes.
