A gay “right to bear arms” group was kicked out of Capital Pride in Olympia, WA over the weekend for entering the festival armed for a small battle.
As cities around the country gear up for their Pride festivities, there’s much to celebrate. But we simultaneously find ourselves staring down the barrel of yet another horrific act of deadly gun violence in the wake of the South Carolina church shooting.
That’s not to say we shouldn’t revel in our beautiful queer selves, but making a bogus civil rights statement with guns at a crowded Pride festival? Come on.
In the below videos, the 2nd amendment group spars with Pride organizers.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
The festival’s stance is straightforward — “We don’t want your guns here,” a female organizer said. “Plain and simple.”
The activists, on the other hand, try manufacturing Pride’s civil rights focus into a great hypocrisy for wishing to omit the presence of deadly weapons.
“We would love for you to be here, but not the guns,” the same organizer tells them.
The group was unsuccessful at entering the first day, and returned the following afternoon to continue the stunt. Eventually, police were called and they were officially asked to leave.
We’ve got a long, long way to go…

You’re not sure if they even have a permit to carry it. 2. You don’t know what kind of training, if any, they’ve had in handling it. 3. OK, first, I didn’t see anyone “throwing a fit” in the video attached. Second, even though I agree that it’s inappropriate to carry weapons at random (Open Carry), the people at the entrance were at fault, not the Gays With Guns. I sympathize with their fear of weapons but until we revise the laws of the land they had no right to keep those men from peacefully carrying their weapons. So, talk to your legislators and get the laws changed!

Weapons are not permitted at 99.9% of all municipal, federal, state or county parks which I am sure this festival was being held at.. also weapons are almost always prohibited anywhere that is also serving alcohol. I do support his right to carry, but this was the wrong venue for sure.

The founders lived in a time when even the largest cities didn’t have paid police forces – Phila, NYC etc. didn’t have paid police until well into the 19th century. Rural people sometimes had guns but not a lot since they were expensive. There was anxiety about the British (i.e. Canadians) invading again, which they actually did 1812-14. The Second Amendment doesn’t mean what its fans tend to think it means.

Do you think that lesbians, trans women (and men), and rural LGBTQ are all the nasty names you are calling them? or as you just calling names because you’re unable or unwilling to have a civil discourse about guns, violence, and prevention of violence. For example, does the clearly documented LGBTQ disproportionately high use of illicit drugs contribute to violence, and risk of violence, with guns? Almost certainly.

While I can get that people have feelings and they may have been hurt. During an union organizing conference we did a study on it with some questions. I was in the back with the females on the “privilege study”. There was a couple african american men (the only ones) and a couple women towards the front. I do believe in the right to carry even open in public. I believe this as long as the state continues it’s violent rampage on the American public. Sure maybe they could have gone about this differently…. How about during the movement were things perfect when it first began? Did some things happen that weren’t the most organized? We need to step back and look at who is doing the oppression. Death by police happens to mostly minorities. I know not all but it’s a huge problem. How many activists including the Huey P Newton gun club go and kill people? They started for the reason that the state will not mess with armed individuals. If you carry you are less likely to be murdered or raped. Sure other means of self defense must be taken first. I know you may say “why can’t I just call 911” or “it’ll never happen” but that doesn’t make sense. The police will not respond right away and they are mainly there to investigate crimes not to stop them. I know they are trying to look at “future crimes” but I think they may need to hire some physics for that lol. Either way we who carry guns love you guys and ladies and anyone who doesn’t force themselves on other people via political, physical, mental, etc. Why can’t we just stand together? I got your back and even if you have been attacked by someone with a firearm it wasn’t the firearm it was the person using it to do harm.
