Dear interviewers: Do not piss off The Barney. When it comes to executive pay on Wall Street, the congressman knows where he stands, so if you’re going to ask him about the issue, don’t talk over this homo, mmmkay? (Cue to 4:45)

Barney Frank…ugh
Geoff
I actually think the interviewer was a dolt. I’ve worked w/guys like this and can’t stand them.

Frank’s got more patience than I would have had with that @$$hole. He should be fired.
Thom Freeheart
Barney Frank and the rest of Congress should practice what they preach. Their pay should be tied to responsibility. Like corporate executives, when they fail to do their job, such as proper regulation of banks, their pay should be withheld.
myrios123
Unfortunately, to be heard, you must interrupt. That’s rude. That’s CNBC.
TANK
THe usual republicans are putting him down. JTeasdal, you suck:

Haines has a point. And it’s surprising given that he’s usually defending exorbitant executive compensation and self regulation because he, and like all of the rest, don’t provide financial news…but try to make it. It’s not going to be shareholder executive compensation oversite if the power for such oversite is going to be vested in other financial institutions and brokerages.

Barney is far from perfect [who is?] but there’s no one better at shooting down the homohaters whom most “gay leaders” don’t even dent in their desperate, self-castrating fear of appearing “not nice.”
Flaws and all, we need more like Frank to bloody their bigot noses every chance he gets.
“They appear to have become so attached to their outrage that they are even more outraged that they won’t be able to be outraged anymore.”
“I do have things I would like to see adopted on behalf of LGBT people: they include the right to marry the individual of our choice; the right to serve in the military to defend our country; and the right to a job based solely on our own qualifications. I acknowledge that this is an agenda, but I do not think that any self-respecting radical in history would have considered advocating people’s rights to get married, join the army, and earn a living as a terribly inspiring revolutionary platform”
“I think there’s a right to privacy. But the right to privacy should not be a right to hypocrisy. And people who want to demonize other people shouldn’t then be able to go home and close the door and do it themselves.”
“I turned to my own expert, my mother, who reports that in 59 years of marriage, no one ever introduced her as Elsie Fag.”
“You know, we are told don’t take things personally, but I take this personally. I take it personally when people decide to take political batting practice with my life, when people decide that they would demonize, not just me, I am old, I am over it, but young people who are just starting out, who find themselves, for reasons they can’t explain, attracted to someone of the same sex, and they are demonized in this House of Representatives as if they are a threat to marriage.
That is the biggest nonsensical statement of all. Yes, marriage between a man and woman who are in love is a good thing. How does allowing two men who love each other to become legally committed endanger these marriages of 37 or 38 years? Let me tell you the logical structure, or the illogical structure, of the argument on the other side.
People will remember the commercial for V8 juice years ago in which a cartoon character who was feeling poorly drank various juices to see if he or she could be energized. None of them worked. Tomato juice didn’t work. Apple juice didn’t work. Pineapple juice didn’t work, and then someone gives him a V8. The cartoon character gets pumped up, literally, and steam comes out of his ears. He is literally now raring to go, because he had a V8.
He says to himself, wow, I could have had a V8. Note for the record, I just smacked myself in the forehead to represent what happened in the commercial. Now, that is apparently the logical structure of same-sex marriages. Apparently there were these 37-, 38-, 42-year-long marriages all over the place.
There are happily married men all over America, and they are content with their wives. They are heterosexual, and they feel this physical and emotional attraction to each other. Then they read in the paper that in the State of Massachusetts it is now possible for there to be a same-sex marriage.
How is a marriage endangered? Apparently, people happily married in Indiana, Nebraska, Kansas, and Mississippi read that we have had same-sex marriage quite successfully in Massachusetts, and they look in the mirror and they say, ‘Wow, I could have married a guy’!
So, apparently, same-sex marriage is the V8 juice of America.”

Let’s just call a spade a spade. Misogynistic, straight, bullies who are the white male masters of the Wall Street universe hate Frank because he is gay just like they hate Pelosi just because she is a woman in power. Everyone on that channel (CNBC) acts this way including the women. It’s time someone made it known that this kind of attitude and behavior is unacceptable.
rick
barney seems to know what he is talking about. and he is right.
hephaestion
Who was that CNBC schmuck? What a fool.
Barney rules!
Jim
Poor Barney, he sounds like he has his false teeth removed and a dick in his mouth.

Granted, Barney did pull a straw man on the host. So the host was right to correct the misrepresentation.
But I think the problem with cable news and commentary is that they often do not invite guests to enlighten the audience and host, but to intentionally stir up an argument. The whole point is to treat the guest as the expert, not as a punching bag. If the host knew the correct answer all along, what’s the point of inviting anyone to say differently?
Michael @ LeonardMatlovich.com
@Kid A:
Having been interviewed by reporters myself and long watched the patterns in such forums as this, I can vouch for much of what you say.
Even the most SUPPOSEDLY “objective” news bureaus, particularly TV and radio, approach everyone with a “narrative” already in their heads, meaning THEIR opinion of what is true, important, relevant, etc.
So their questions are RARELY to seek answers but to generate responses that FIT their narrative. Barney don’t play that game, nor should he or anyone else. The stakes are too high, and nowhere on that list is passively serving the subjective narrative/agenda of the interviewer.
Centuries ago, when I was the spokesperson for a local antiwar group, an older veteran activist taught me this important lesson. She said, “Remember the purpose of our participating in the interview is to get out OUR message and you only have a few seconds. Whenever a reporter asks something counterproductive, say, ‘That’s a very interesting question, but here’s what’s really important ______________________.”

Supporting Barney Frank simply because he is gay is moronic. The reason Republicans dislike Barney Frank ain’t cause he’s a homo. It’s because he’s a lying hypocrite, like most politicians. Pull your head out of your asses queens, and stop voting jokers like this into office. If you have lost your job, gotten a pay cut, are losing your home, or otherwise feeling any economic pain, you can thank your openly-homosexual Congressman for most of it.
damon459
Addyboo I’m not sure what to say other then What ? First the economy didn’t end up in the shitter because of Barney Frank that idea is just plain stupid! secondly if he’s a lying hypocrite like most politicians what’s to convince me the republicans are any better ? Lastly I don’t see what Barney Franks Sexuality has to do with the economy being in the crapper. Maybe you should try a real argument, just saying he’s a lying hypocrite with no evidence is like saying George Bush went to war cause god told him too.
Mark
Barney Frank is a buffoon. You can’t misrepresent the interviewer’s statements in the first sentence of your answer and not expect them to interrupt.
But the real problem with Frank is his ideas. Government has no business telling companies how to determine what their execs get paid.
Cam
Frank was trying to put words in the guys mouth, the guy didn’t say “Do Nothing” he was asking Frank about what appeard to be a hole in the legislation. THIS is why bad legislation gets though, because Arrogant congressmen like Frank will never look at any criticisms of the bills they run up. They have a “HOW DARE YOU” attitude. I’m not a fan of the interviewer but Frank came off like a petulant child.
roger
supporting barney frank JUST because he is gay is both backward and counterproductive. bad legislation is bad legislation. bad committee leadership is bad committee leadership.
this man is IGNORANT. AND belligerant. not a good combination when we need smart people and who help us dig out of MANY financial messes.
barney frank is INCAPABLE of having a civil discussion with anyone. the cnbc hosts did NOTHING wrong here and did not mistreat him. this is barney’s m.o. check his record. fuck: check youtube. the man is an embarrassment.
Addyboo
Check your facts Damon459… Barney Frank is the head of the House Banking committee. If he is not one of the politicians most responsible for the economy, who the hell is?
I did not mean to imply that his being gay was a cause for the poor economy. I just meant that his being gay should not be the reason his constituents keep him in office. He’s an awful representative.
