Just because Barney Frank’s not running for re-election doesn’t mean that he’s gonna stop being “catty.”
Even today’s press conference to announce his retirement, Frank still took a second to say that he’d love to debate the Defense of Marriage Act with thrice-wedded GOP Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich because, “I think he is an ideal opponent for us when we talk about who it is that is threatening the sanctity of marriage.”
Oh Barney, you delightful bitch you.

Effing Priceless!…. Cant wait for the rebuttal from Newt
Hyhybt
There’s not much to rebut; either you take the position that *any* heterosexual marriage is better than *any* gay one (as of course anyone in the current Republican field, including Newt, would do) or else Barnet Frank exactly right.

Love it

Gonna miss ya, Barney.

Barney was a trailblazer with great intellect and a biting wit.

@fuzz: I agree! It’s a loss for our community, and the country!

Gingrich loves traditional marriage so much he had three of them

Barney Frank is priceless. Truly he has been just about the best member of the House of Representatives these past couple of decades. His constituency, the institution, C-SPAN, indeed the whole country, are the worse for his departure. As another poster above says, he was a trailblazer: we are all better off that he was there all these years. I know as a kid it meant a lot to me that there was an openly gay man serving this country term after term in our Congress, for what it said about him, for what it said about Congress, for what it said about working-class average Joes who re-elected him every two years term after term, and for what it said about this country, about the possibilities for people some view as minorities in this country including the one we saw come to pass with the first African American president. I very much hope Barney Frank will continue to inspire us and spur progress in this country with his vast knowledge, his compelling arguments and his great wit. I wish him luck, love, happiness, good health, and Godspeed.

Barney Frank voted FOR the Defense Authorization Act as amended with language that became 10 USC §654 “The Homosexual Conduct Act,” banning gay people from serving in the military without exception. The Homosexual Conduct Act was the law Bill Clinton modified by DOD Directive, allowing gay people to serve conditionally, a policy popularly known as DADT.
Barney bitched about the public protests that precipitated the recent legislative repeal, insisting that protestors were “only putting pressure on the grass.”
Barney called San Francisco’s decision to challenge state marriage restrictions “a distraction.”
Barney gutted ENDA in 07, then dropped it the next year to take the pressure off Obama.
Barney’s first and foremost a self-satisfied partisan politician, at best an incrementalist and at worst a kapo — and he’s seldom at his best.
I have a very, very low regard for Barney Frank.

@the crustybastard: Dude, you hit the nail on the head. Perhaps if Frank hadn’t misled the country on the status of Fannie & Freddie that led us into this housing mess, I might have a little more respect for the man. But I’m supposed to show solidarity with this guy just because he’s gay? Yeah, right. I have as much mutual respect for Barney Frank as I do for Jeffrey Dahmer or John Wayne Gacy.

@the crustybastard: how dare you step off the plantation!
the crustybastard
@stoopid louie:
In fairness, Phil Gramm is far more responsible for the economic collapse than Barney Frank.
Barney is merely craven. Gramm is manifestly evil.
@ousslander:
Never stepped on either party’s plantation. Political parties are the absolute RUIN of this country. They should have been outlawed from the beginning. They considered it.
