Blake Skjellerup, Robbie Rogers and Brittney Griner are all champs in their respective sporting arenas but in a new documentary they share the struggles they had to overcome for not being hetero.
“I was always very sensitive to words “homo’ and ‘fag’,” soccer star Rogers remembers. “It’s quite a hard thing if you’re young and in sports and don’t have anyone to relate to,” speed skater Skellerup offers, while pro basketballer Griner reveals being asked is she was a boy or a girl.
Journey of the Gay Athlete will premiere on CNN International Saturday.
