Like sands through the hourglass, so are the gays of our lives. Chandler Massey snatched his second consecutive Outstanding Young Actor Daytime Emmy for his role as gay teen Will Horton on Days of Our Lives on Sunday.
He beat out his on-air boyfriend Sonny Kiriakis, played by Freddie Smith, who Massey called a “phenomenal” actor and person. Massey’s win last year marked the first time an actor won for portraying a gay character, while this year he won for Will Horton’s coming-out storyline, seen below.
The 22-year-old actor plans on returning to UCLA to finish up his degree after his contract is up in December. Massey completed his first quarter as a freshman before dropping out to pursue his award-winning role on Days.

The actors on daytime TV are just god awful in their “acting” abilities. Luckily they are good looking otherwise they would be without a job.

Pretty sure Eden Riegel was the first person to win an Emmy playing a gay character. Chandler Massey is the first to win for playing a gay, male character.

His looks definitely exceed his acting ability, but he wasn’t that bad miagoodguy

@miagoodguy: “The actors on daytime TV are just god awful in their “acting” abilities. Luckily they are good looking otherwise they would be without a job.”
That is a generalization + a falsehood. There are several daytime actors who have done an excellent job in their respective roles + deserved to be acknowledged (sadly, they haven’t always received their due, but my point remains). That said, there are some daytime actors who have only gotten by on looks/popularity + couldn’t act to save their own life (but that’s the same for some actors within every genre). For example, I have no idea why Scott Clifton (B + B, Liam Spencer) has won any awards for acting. Come on…
Eric Braeden (Y + R, Victor Newman), however, I think has done a great job in his role.

For a quick minute, the actress playing his g’mother reminded me of Candice Bergen.

@miagoodguy: So what you are insinuating is that if Meryl Streep, Jack Nicholson, Daniel Day Lewis and Sally Field were to read the lines from a daytime TV show, their acting ability would make the story line/dialogue more believable?
Silly.

Never said anything about the storyline being believable. The acting of the typical soap opera “actor” (and I use the term actor liberally) is just god aweful.
