Shade Rupe submitted this creepy and atmospheric gay slasher clip, “T is for Trick,” into the ABCs of Death short film contest, in which filmmakers vie for $5,000 and the chance to have their work included in a feature film alongside top talents.
Rupe’s currently ranked 13th out of 171 entries, so if you like “T is for Trick” vote for him! Out horror master Clive Barker did—and he sent some encouraging words too.
“That was an elegantly shot, sharply edited and strongly conceived and directed four minutes of film-making. Colour me impressed. You managed to imply a whole range of character options for us, from which entirely plausible narrative solutions spilled. Very fine, courageous work from you and your actors. I hit the heart to say I’d been there. I hope it helps and i will certainly make sure my guys do the same.”
Pretty sweet.

I think I now have even less respect for Clive Barker.

Mr. Barker needs to get out more. William Friedkin covered this story in 1980’s CRUISING. This seems like a rip off of that earlier film and it is sad that this is the kind of image of gay men that is put out there for all to see.

@George412: i was reminded of that movie also. And the stabbing wasnt all that good to boot.

I read Clive Barker + thought of Clive Davis. I was wondering “since when is Davis an out horror master?”.

That was terrible. From the awful distorted treble-heavy guitar track which never let up to the weak acting to the contrived “twist” to the horrible direction and cinematography. Truly terrible.
I hate it when movies are shot so dark that you cannot even see what’s happening when there’s absolutely no reason for it (other than having a weak director who is trying to mask his deficiencies).

@StudioTodd: Tell us what you really feel.

Wow! Cool! Another gay murdered. That’s really neat, love the way it was handled. Hope when I get murdered, it’ll be just like that! Maybe you all can get murdered that way too! It’ll be so artistic. But I suppose it doesn’t really bother me cause the dead guy’s old and fat so it didn’t really hurt and nobody will miss him and he probably deserved it for not being young and thin. (That’s sarcasm)
So really, why is this shit OK? It’s way worse than not OK.
NO I DON’T LIKE IT! And I also don’t like that it’s even on Queerty.
Just because Hollywood is run by a bunch of corporate money grubbing Aspberger cases, doesn’t mean we have to be subjected to this on Queerty.
den
Idiotic. Stupid thing to have on queerty.

Cruising did it first and better. Did we really need to revisit that throwback to an uglier era? I’m assuming from the age of the actors that the director is older but clearly he hasn’t grown out of his adolescence. Yuck.

Am I the only one that thought “Cruising” was ridiculous and campy? People are talking like it was a great movie.
Yes, a gay person killed. You know what I’m sick of? Every horror movie having the usual heterosexual, stereotypical characters. So, yeah — why not something like this? We’re always complaining that we’re not included in mainstream movies. Do we have a rule that those movies have to be positive, tender films? Bleh.
Not great. Not awful. But, it’s interesting.
