Talking to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, former Secretary of State General Colin Powell revealed he agrees with President Obama’s stance on same-sex marriage:
“I have no problem with it…As Iâve thought about gay marriage, I know a lot of friends who are individually gay but are in partnerships with loved ones, and they are as stable a family as my family is, and they raise children. And so I donât see any reason not to say that they should be able to get married.”
Not sure what he means by “individually gay,” but the sentiment is appreciated.

The LGBT community needs straight allies. Thanks for seeing through the B.S. and discrimination. For every hour that passes that we are held out, separated from our compatriots by discriminatory laws, the Nation is made less safe and less true to its word. NO SALE! Overall I endorse applauding the growth of bad people. But some peopleâs sins are SO bad, I canât imagine them ever doing enough to get me to forgive them, and retired Gen. Rectum Powell is one of them. From his attempt to whitewash the My Lai Massacre in Vietnam, to his being THE one person most responsible for defeating President Clintonâs plan to lift the military plan and getting it codified into DADT by demonizing gays and lesbians as people who âchooseâ their [unacceptable] behavior, resulting in the needless discharges of some 15,000+ service members, and the major role he played in the illegal and deadly invasion of Iraq by the Bush II Reich, the man remains rotten to the core to these old eyes. So heâs right about thisâa broken clock is right twice a day, too.
By “No Sale” I never meant to suggest not “accepting” his endorsement of marriage equality, any more than I would reject money raised for marriage equality battles by Ken Mehlman who’s STILL a fag Repug stooge in other ways, nor say, “No, Ted Olsen, because you helped established exploiter of homophobia [SEE: campaign for TX governor against Ann Richards], Idiot for All Seasons, and eventual war criminal [for whom Powell prostituted himself] George Bush fils STEAL the 2000 election we shouldn’t accept your help furthering marriage equality in the courts.” But there is a functional and moral difference between exploiting what Powell’s now said, and dropping all other outstanding charges, so to speak, and declaring him a new “Hero for the Gays.” I”m not saying you’re doing that, but some unequivocally are.

He probably just meant that they are individuals who happened to be gay. You can have friends due to common interests where, whether they are gay or straight, their sexual orientation would not come up except incidentally.
