Rich Madaleno is the first and only openly gay person to serve in Maryland‘s State Senate, so the fact that voters have upheld the state’s same-sex marriage law holds a particular and deeply personal relevance.
Although for the senator and his partner, Mark Hodge, this is just a chance to finally put it on paper.
“Do we intend to get a license? Yes. We were married 11 years ago,” Madaleno told The Washington Post. “We have no intention of putting our friends through having to buy us another round of gifts from Crate & Barrel.”
And that’s where you made your first mistake, Madaleno. A legit marriage license at least calls for a ceremonious registry at a mid-tier department store.
