WATCH: Gay Survivor Villain Colton Cumbie Explains Why He’s A Tool
Survivor pretty much invented the gay-villain meme on reality TV with Season One winner Richard Hatch. But not even the clothing-averse Hatch spewed such hurtful remarks as Colton Cumbie, 21, the gay Republican contestant on Survivor: One World. Before a bacterial infection forced Cumbie to leave, he told various cast members to kill themselves and called African-American contestant Bill Posely “ghetto trash.”
On Sunday’s reunion show, Colton and his mother tried to apologize for his behavior on the show. Because that’s what douchebags do—they get their mommies to stand up for them.

He got so unpleasent I stopped watching and started again when a friend mentioned he was not on it anymore.
My favorite moment of his hypocracy was when he was crying and begging the one woman to give him an idol, and then later on, he made some statement that he was a republican and didn’t believe in handouts.
Funny, you sure believed in them when you were crying to them to give you a free idol.
The guy wasn’t a fun villain that I would want to watch, he was so unpleasent that I would probably not bother to watch a show where they brought him back.

The show went down in ratings when he left. He was right, it got boring. RuPaul needed PhiPhi and Survivor needed Colton. They were like red pepper flakes in the oatmeal.

I think the show creates a narrative for their characters and pegs them into silly stereotypes. The zany moralist, the evil queer, the loveable fat guy, the narcissistic model, etc. The show is ultimately a negative experience for everyone, especially the viewers.
