Star Trek alum and LGBT activist George Takei joined a growing roster of celebrities endorsing openly gay candidate Christine Quinn for mayor today. In a video released on Quinn’s campaign site, Takei asserts that “she will boldly go where no woman has gone before.” Har har.

“She has the experience, the toughness and the heart to take us into the future,” he said. “And I should know a thing or two about the future. I worked there for three seasons and six movies.” (Still not getting the Star Trek references? Click here.)

But the video endorsement isn’t all knee-slapping puns. As a personal friend of the progressive candidate, Takei added:

“Whenever there are challenges, she brings them together. The vast network of her relationships combined with her amazing talent for problem solving and works out a solution. A progressive leader with an amazing record of achievements, Christine Quinn will take New York City to great heights.”

Takei joins celebrities Tim Gunn, Neil Patrick Harris, Lena Dunham and Audra McDonald as the most recent member of the Quinn fan club, all of whom have recorded similar endorsements available on Quinn’s website.
