WATCH: How Alex Minsky Turned Tragedy Into Triumph With An Unlikely Modeling Career

Thanks to his always stunning, often partially-nude modeling photos, former Marine Alex Minsky has long been a favorite with Queerty readers. Now Southern California’s KTLA news has caught up and profiled the photogenic 25-year-old, who lost his right leg while stationed in Afghanistan. Some of Minsky’s more ardent admirers already his back story: The military vet returned to the U.S. after the accident and, after conquering a brief but torrid love affair with the bottle, began a rigid workout regimen to regain his physical and mental health. Fate intervened when a photographer noticed the tattoo-covered Minsky leaving the gym and when he realized it wasn’t just a typical pickup line from an amorous gay, an unlikely modeling career was born.

      Is he gay? If not, don’t show us a carrot we can’t eat.

      @Aaron: He doesn’t need you. He can take care of himself.@viveutvivas: He’s not gay, but it doesn’t matter because there’s no way he’d let you eat his carrot anyway.

      He is straight, so I am not entirely sure what relevance he has to gay people. Is he an ally or something? I don’t get an ally vibe from him and a remark he made in an interview really rubbed me the wrong way:

      “I go to the gym twice a day, I’m very healthy,” he told GuySpy. “The first photographer approached me as I was leaving the place. At first I thought it was just another gay guy hitting on me.”

      “Just another gay guy”? Did he really have to word it that way?

      @DarkZephyr, exactly. Being attractive is one thing, but I find attractive people who are full of themselves rather repulsive.

      @Darkeszephyr: I though I was the only one who felt that way. I don’t get an ally vibe from him either.And this is one gay many who is not gonna give him a pass because here hott.There is a lot more then just outer appearance. Maybe others have, but I have never heard him say anything in support of GLBT people or rights. I have not even seen or heard where here has been thankful for the support that gay men (his biggest support/fanbase) ,(it sure in the hell ant hetrosexual women) has given him. Now just watch and wait. When enough gays catch on and becomes suspicious of him, he will come out with how great and wonderful the GLBT people are and how he does not believe in anytype of discrimination…

      @Rockery: Agreed. Minsky is hot hot hot, but gay idol status should be put on hold until we learn more about his stances on freedom and equality.

      The Queerty logic seems to be if it concerns a hot male body, post it. Some relevancy to the LGBT community would be nice, however.

      To shed some light on his GLBT views/actions, he posted this is on Facebook:

      I dont mean to post anything offensive to anybody. Ever. Just not my style. I’m sorry if you where offended by what I posted on here a few hours ago (quickly and quietly have already taken off the page)

      I have wonderful relationships with many homosexual men & women. I have beautiful homosexual men & women in my immediate family, and I too get offended personally when someone attacks at them, or tries to belittle them in any way shape or form. I am sorry if my words on here ever hurt anybody. That’s never my intension. I am trying to HELP people, never take away from peoples.

      I love you all. Have a pleasant night & always remember, TRY NOT TO BE SUCH A DANG KNUCKLEHEAD! ?????

      Make of it what you will…

      @DarkZephyr:
      1. I don’t mean to speak for jwtraveler. But his obvious hostility comes from the people he’s replying to. Aaron who made an innocent comment but has undertones of unnecessary pity. And viveutvivas who made a dickish comment.

      Also Darkeszephyr, you said, “Just another gay guy”? Did he really have to word it that way?” How else should he word it? I mean come on, he’s not literary scholar, just some guy. If you read homophobia into that statement then you’re either way too sensitive or just looking to be offended.

      Who is calling this guy an ally? He’s just a hot piece of ass to admire. He’s getting a lot of attention from gay entertainment sites because he’s way hot. That’s it. He gets mainstream attention because he’s a vet with a missing limb. It’s i guess inspirational.

      @stranded: Who is saying anybody is calling this guy an ally?

      People are asking what mandates this particular hot guy being featured multiple times on a gay website. He’s not the only hot guy in the world — why him?

      @Degas: LOL… Thanks for posting that. Well folks, didn’t I tell you this was coming? And as I’m not even psychic. This is just too funny and predictible. So I’m not bying this. He had to come out with this because he knows that gay men are the bread & butter of his modeling career.He dosen’t want to mess up any future sales of calendars he might do. Hell women are not gonna buy it. And there is money to be made on the college lecture circuit with issues pertaining to the GLBT community . And he’s been modeling for around two yrs now, and I’m sure these beautiful homosexual men and women in his immediate family did not turn homosexual overnight, why wait until you’re called and your beliefs and stance on GLBT are questioned?? I think someone is trying to save face. And with the statment that was released, he still did not mention his views on justice, freedom and equality as it pertain to the GLBT community. And I’m not so sure he is as straight as he claims. I definately get a gay or bi vibe from him. But I’m sure he’s gonna hold on to being straight because he wants to parlay this 15 minute modeling gig into something bigger. Like acting.

      @stranded: How about “I thought it was someone hitting on me” and leave it at that? “Just another gay guy” implies dismissiveness to the “fawning homosexuals” that just can’t get enough of his healthy gorgeous body. I don’t like it.

      Hmm, I think I’m getting the gay relevancy on this… Michael Stokes, the photographer. Check out his work. If you like Minsky, you will like the other models Stokes uses and his erotic photography.

      Just a different perspective on the whole gym thing. My son is the same age as Minsky and built similarly. He’s also a really nice looking (none of my doing, he doesn’t have my DNA). He’s also straight. He gets hit on, given numbers and business cards, and pursued relentlessly by guys at the gym. They follow him into the the locker room and to his car, then in his car. He had to stop showering at the gym because guys would pleasure themselves in front of him.

      My son is always a gentleman about being hit on by guys. He finds it flattering, of course. But the shower bit and the following bit is creepy, illegal, and WTF? Unless one is giving off the vibe to invite that sort of thing, back off.

      @Degas:

      Stop embarrassing yourself.

      No one believes this fantasy profile you are creating on Queerty. It is so over-rehearsed, you are over-sharing, it does not even make sense.

      Let me tell you why, if this was some that happened to your biracial straight son you would have said so in your first comment.

      But this is the main point:

      You know too many details, there are other things that point to you being a fake but I’ll leave it alone

      You are officially on troll status

      @Rockery: Sorry for TMI. My life has been pretty awesome, so sometimes I do over share. I’ve been very fortunate with my spouse and my son – my family. I’ve grown in ways I never knew possible and came to understand what unconditional love is through my son. Sorry if it comes off the wrong way.

      @Degas: So now you’re claiming that gay men are sexual predators who attack straight guys in the locker room? So we can’t help ourselves? wtf?
      Ummm thanks for that…
      I think from now on Queerty should use hot models we know are gay friendly. Just so we can avoid another round of fans coming on here to defend him by insulting gay men even more.

      @Degas: Wow. Just wow. What’s wrong with your comment is the same thing that others found wrong with Minsky’s.
      @Rockery: You got that right.
      @Tackle: @DarkZephyr: I agree with you both. Minsky and some commenting in his favor here seem to misunderstand gay men. Just because someone is an attractive straight man doesn’t mean he’s God’s gift to gay men.

      would be hotter without those god awful tattoos….I can see a couple, but I’m beginning to think there’s something addictive in the ink that makes people cover their bodies- what’s the point in taking off a shirt if all you can see are tats?

      @Degas: I thought the comment Alex made on FB cleared things up.
      But then you post that convenient and completely made up anecdote that carries so many negative stereotypes about gay men, that it sounds like something NOM would produce.
      Alex Minsky probably wouldn’t appreciate you making up homophobic stories on the internet to “defend” him.
