WATCH: Is San Francisco’s Gay Film Festival Turning Into an Orgy of Gay Porn?
I Want Your Love — Brown Bunny, Shortbus, every single Lars von Trier film. Yes, unsimulated sex has been an art-flick staple for decades, but never has it been captured with as much intimate awkwardness as in IWYL.
The film festival has turned into yet another display of elitism among gays… If you aren’t a member of the festival, or a VIP, you’ll be the last to enter the theatre & forced to hunt for single-seats in the rafters. Don’t ever try & have an evening of it with a special someone; disaster & hassle.
Once upon a time it was a great way for everyone (even the lesbians!) to enjoy time together leading up to PRIDE & see ourselves & our lives finally reflected in cinema; it was great.
Porno or not, it’s now just another parade of privilege in a city that is extraordinarily privileged to begin with.
I’m glad they’re making money, but not everyone can volunteer as an usher. Especially in the current economic climate, their methods need some reconsideration.

HA HA HA, figures SF would accept that LA Zombie nonsense as a ‘film’. If you read behind the scenes quotes, the scene with a group of porn boys, thinking they had been hired to do a legit film (not the brightest bunch), where surprised/shocked when the director instructed them to proceed into a orgy/fuckfest and they were all like, err, we didn’t know we would be fucking in the movie, director, well that’s ok, just go ahead and start fucking, they had to stop filming at that point so the porn boys could go clean out their butts. They really didn’t know that they would be fucking on film. Yea, if I don’t ever get a chance to watch that nonsense in this lifetime, I think I’ll be ok.

When sex becomes the only way to keep them coming (no pun intended), interested or involved then substance HAS to be lacking.
Many of my friends who used to come to NYC from all over the country for the Gay Pride Parade have stopped because it has turned into nothing else but a parade for the vain. It is sad but painfully true that the gay community has lost it’s way.

What we have here is the effect of Bruce LaBruce and German Gay Adult Company Cazzo on Gay Adult in the US / California. Bruce LaBruce had an “arrangement” with Cazzo Films in which LaBruce presented a “theatrical verson” of a film to theaters and gay film festivals while Cazzo Films was able to present a hardcore version of the film to the Gay Adult Audience. Some years ago, we wondered on our blog how long it would take Gay Adult in California to realize that having theatrical and hardcore versions of films opened up a whole new audience for films. Some props must also be paid to director Toby Ross and Wash Westmoreland for their part in having a gay adult and a mainstream product.
