Step aside Steel Magnolias, it looks like your long reign as the most quotable movie for gay people may soon be over. Next to American Horror Story: Coven, nothing’s whetted our appetite for female ensemble-driven entertainment quite like August: Osage County.
Based on Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer- and Tony-winning drama about an incredibly dysfunctional family gathering, the film adaptation stars a few ladies you might be familiar with, including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Juliette Lewis, Abigail Breslin and Margo Martindale, plus there’s no shortage of competent male actors including straight allies such as Benedict Cumberbatch and Ewan McGregor. Mark our words: Scenery will be chewed! The ladies not only duke it out on screen, but according to strong advance word from the movies’s premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last week, many of them will battle for awards consideration after the film opens on Christmas day.
