In this preview clip from tonight’s episode of Oxygen’s Preachers of L.A., Pastor Jay Haizlip and his wife Christy discuss a former member of their congregation, April, a transgender skater who’s planning on going through a sex reassignment surgery. Now known as David, he wants to return to the church. Christy advocates welcoming David with love in adherance to their belief system, while her husband expresses his uneasiness. “This isn’t about what’s easy for me,” he says, “it’s about what’s right in the eyes of God.”
You can see if and how David is welcomed back to the church tonight on Preachers of L.A. on Oxygen, 10/9 central.

I hope that David finds a church home that accepts him unconditionally. If one of his pastors thinks he would have a “hard time” calling him David, it’s a clue that it’s not the right place for him. There are other churches that will welcome him just as he is.

Never underestimate how much LGBT phobia still exists in major cities like L.A.

These so called Christians, don’t know the meaning of the word. They are a bunch of over made-up, greedy, selfish, bigots who are now exploiting David purely for ratings. Hell is calling…

I think you’re attacking someone that doesn’t have voice here, and thats not right. The Pastor didn’t say he wouldn’t love April/David!! He is having a hard time dealing with it because he has known April since she was a little girl.. That kind of change is hard for ANYONE!! I believe he and his wife are good people.. They are opening their hearts to David in love… It WILL be hard for them….AT FIRST.. As it would be to ANYONE having to deal with another person’s change of gender.. I think it’s unfair of you people to judge because you’re judging from your “own history” of what a Christian is… You’re doing the EXACT SAME THING a purported “Christian” would do to YOU.. Where does the hypocracy stop?? How about NOT throwing all Christians under the bus and showing a little compassion for the ones who are doing what is right and trying to live peacefully with the LGBT community. There are a number of Christians who are compassionate loving people who truly emulate the love of God and the teachings of Jesus.. Give them a chance and stop the name calling and bullying of those who are honestly “trying” ROME WASN’T BUILT IN A DAY KIDS…
