Joan Rivers invited RuPaul to the latest taping of her show, In Bed with Joan Rivers, which quickly turns into an ol’ gals sleepover sans pajamas. The feisty pair talk about Ru’s childhood, the wild success of RuPaul’s Drag Race (and why it’s successful), and most importantly, what happens when tucked drag queens get aroused.
We love Joan just as much as the next gay, but did she really need to continually refer to Mother Ru as a “tranny”?

Nice interview. (“Tr@nny” thing was weird, though. Woman seems to be an ally, but clueless.)

Saying outragous things is Joan’s schtick.

RuPaul is very outspoken in his defense of the word “tr@nny”, so not all T* agree that tr@nny is offensive.
(stupid Queerty filters make me type it like that, even though it’s very relevant to the discussion of this story)

@yaoming: I think it’s a generational thing. I’m English and in my 30s and (obviously depending on context and situation) tr@nny has always been an affectionate term for a transvestite, or a drag queen. It’s never been used to describe someone who is transsexual.
It’s hard to remember that it’s become an offensive term.
