An upcoming love scene between Days of Our Lives’ Will Horton and his boyfriend, Sonny, was posted on YouTube, but the clip—hardly risque even by daytime standards—got dinged with an age-restriction label.
It’s actually site users that flag content as inappropriate, leading to a review by staffers, but that didn’t stop the outcry. One YouTube commenter wrote, “Apparently kissing is only deemed “inappropriate” if it’s same-sex kissing. YouTube seems to have a big problem with seeing homosexuality as somehow “offensive”. YouTube needs to join the Twenty-first century. This is 2012, not 1972. ”
Within an hour, however, the age restriction was lifted. Good job everyone!

As everyone will recall, YouTube is now owned and operated by Google.
The outcry, which is well-deserved, should also be directed at Google.
It is Google ultimately that sets the policies that YouTube must follow.
Lots of changes have happened at YouTube including the infamous “We want you to use your real name and if you decide not to, we won’t let you post”
That’s the “next big thing” at GoogleTube, they’re just playing it soft at
first. Remember, Google kept saying “Don’t be Evil” and how long did that
really last? Sounded good at the time which is all they really wanted.

Nice for starters but it will never have the intensity, passion and realism of One Life To Live’s Oliver and Kyle.
Fidelio
omg, i think i just jizzed
DuMaurier
@Fidelio: Well…I’m happy for you. The scene’s actually pretty tame, but what made it hot is it’s on daytime TV, which has always been so conservative. I have a friend who used to manage an adult video store, and he got so jaded that when I made him watch “The Graduate”, he said seeing just a glimpse of Anne Bancroft’s partial nudity got him more excited than the XXX stuff he saw every day in the shop.
arlene212
HAVE WATCHED DOOL FOR AS MANY YEARS IT HAS BEEN ON..TOO BAD YOU SPOILED IT WITH THIS GAY STUFF!! WE HAVE ENUFF OF THIS CRAP GOING ON..
ARLENE
Bob LaBlah
Sounds like another daytime soap on its death bed gasping for air (as in bring in the gays to save it).
BrokebackBob
@arlene212: Um, Arlene, if you are so opposed to equal representation of gay/straight
sexual orientations on DOOL, why do you watch it? And, um, what the F*** are you doing
on Queerty if you feel this way??? Or are you a lesbian who is miffed that no
lesbian storylines are on DOOL??? Or are you just a throwback to the 1950’s who
is desperate that things are changing towards equality across the board for
everyone and can’t stand the idea? Or are you just ignorant. I think that’s it.
arlene212
NOPE:) JUST AN OLD BROAD THAT HAPPENS TO HAVE DOOL AS MY FAVORITE FOR YEARS.THEY NEEDED TO HOOK WILL UP WITH GABBY…OR ANYONE WITH THE OPPOSITE PLUMBING:)
nycbearman
@mz.sam: Got that right!
nycbearman
I just think it’s great the NBC is catching up with the world. Gays on DOOL, the New Normal…never would have seen this a couple of years ago. Good stuff.
BrokebackBob
@arlene212: For the love of God Arlene, please press and release the CAPS LOCK key on
your keyboard. When you put something in caps when posting on the Internet it is
interpreted as !SHOUTING! I think you’re going to end up liking DOOL less and less
and that’s a shame as you and your prejudice are left behind wondering why things
change. Make no mistake, regardless of plumbing, shenanigans on soaps are either
a guilty pleasure or a reason to say Awwww ain’t that the way it should be!
This should apply equally to any two people in love. Love is what matters. It is
directly from God and was the whole point Jesus made in his teachings. If you want
an all-straight soap then write your cable company….but unlock your caps lock
FIRST! Be a young broad, not an old one! More fun!
viveutvivas
Very nice scene.
Avenger
How I love the dramatic ‘appalled’ indignation some people have to gay videos being flagged on YT. *The nerve* of this to have a discretionary label! Meh. Just be glad they didn’t delete it. The name on the video doesn’t give any alert that gay content is featured… maybe some viewers didn’t appreciate being suddenly confronted with 2 guys kissing when they clicked on it.
BrokebackBob
@Avenger: Are you related to Arlene? “Maybe some other viewers on YouTube
don’t appreciate being suddenly confronted with a woman and a man going kissing
when they click on it” I’m not one of those viewers but just look at how hypocritical
your argument is. Either put up a policy that is applied fairly and equally to
straight, gay whatever making out scenes and stick to it or shut up. That’s what
I would say to GoogleTube. Your response Avenger has the same “read between the
lines” aspect to it that says: Two people of the same sex sharing a kissing is
somethow WRONG and that opposite sex kissing is not. So is that what you think?
If so, I ask you, like I asked Arlene, what are you doing on this site??? Perhaps
you doth protest too much. Maybe you’d also be in the Ronney/Ryan camp that
believes that rape victims should be forced to have their babies by the government
and that rape is just another method of conception (Ryan) and that it is intended
by God (Mourdock, (R-IN Senate Candidate).
balehead
This is still controversial??? Great clip!
Stache99
@Fidelio:
Wow. Your such a romantic guy too:)
Stache99
@arlene212:
I don’t watch any of this daytime drama myself. Nothing but repetitive dull hetero BS story lines that cater to people like you. A little change isn’t all that bad.
Cee
YouTube has been doing this for a while. You guys need to get with it. Seriously. Because they keep doing the same $hit over and over again. They put a restriction on a lot of gay themed videos that people make. Then people complain and then they take the restriction off. Check out Jamie AKA Chip Tanner from Randy Blue’s channel on YouTube @ “the fourthcumming” He’s made a lot of videos about this because he was a victim of the discrimination by YouTube. Only YouTube was downright deleting his videos and all he was doing was dancing in some shorts. Check his videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR9rzw8U8cc
