Again, the man may be misguided and patronizing in his attempt to help highlight suffering in Uganda but what horrible evil has he done?
Moreover, what separates you from any of those vicious school-house bullies who attack children for appearing different? You assume that because the man isn’t super butch that he’s a closet case.

How many charities take money from the Catholic Church, an organization has centuries of anti-gay behavior under its belt, an organization that knowingly turned a blind eye to the rape of children for decades? Would you celebrate if an employee of a Catholic hospital took ill?
You can’t point to damn thing that Russell has done. Russell’s organization has gay employees that have spoken out that it has no discriminatory policies itself.

@Mark: I tried, and failed, to verify that gay/lesbian employees at IC have spoken publicly about Russell and IC’s finances. This is important in determining whether the critique is justified or not.
You make an excellent point about the Catholic Church — while with one hand they damn homosexuality and preach a Catholic piety, Catholic Charities, across the country, led care and hospice for thousands of HIV/AIDS patients over the years.

@Henry Holland: Perhaps you would like a website that publicly “outs” non-confirmed gays for themselves like this one? I was disappointed that queerty would go that route, even though he has that same “ahem” lispy speaking voice that so many NPR hosts seem to possess, along with a wife and a coupla kids. Don’t get me wrong. The guy is a tremendous douche for letting this whole movement begin and fizzle. Really it’s only saving grace is that hopefully folks will be a little more careful before they go getting tattoos of causes before they actually read up on em. I doubt it though, since the unbelievably vapid shit-eating users of twitter and facebook were the ones that championed this dumb cause to begin with. I am just waiting to laugh at the teary post bathsalts rehab renouncement and redemtion video he will probably release later this year for Obama and the troops and broke people in some country that has a chief export of refugees.
