There’s something about watching Whitney Houston’s lips quiver as she hits her falsetto that, whether you enjoy her new tracks or not, will always give us shivers. In a good way. Here’s “I Look To You,” which, let’s be fair, is no “Million Dollar Bill” remake, but has all the markings of divadom: glam gown, subtle spotlight, blowing fan, solo appearance.

gotta love the chin vibrato. i missed her.

She looks great .. but the voice has lost a lot of its power. Whitney, in her day, had the best set of pipes in the business. I wonder if she can still let loose like she did on “I’ll Always Love You”…

Get it girl!
WTF?
The emotion is still there, but the clarity, the sweetness is gone. It’s rougher, strained. More’s the pity; she had a great voice.

this song sounds like every other sucky whitless houston ballad. she should stay retired smoking her crack.
Cam
She now sounds more like a cross between Whitney Houston and Tina Turner, or Whitney Houston and Gladys Knight. She’s definitly lost some of the high range and purity of her voice. Not a bad song…it just doesn’t sound like a Whitney Houston song.

I’m pretty sure the real Whitney overdosed years ago and the person in that video is a local drag queen from my town.

she sounds different sure but still on par if not better then the competition out there – and if people really expected her to sound as she did 20 years ago knowing what she was/had been up to then you lot must surely be mega stupid/thick or on crack yourselfs and in world of your own.
but regardless she is where she started all those years ago – at No1 – so not a bad comeback – she has delivered more then i was truely ever expecting of her. she deserves credit for trying to get her life back on track.

She needs a serious re-think of her material. These songs could have been sung by any random girl with a decent voice. Her voice isn’t the same, but it is still plenty– but it’s not really capable of the shlock vocal gymnastics of her past. And that’s fine. How boring it got when everyone was whistle screeching and pretending to go into seizures while they belt/screamed some lame ass meaningless lyrics over an over produced soundtrack. My hope is that she feels safe and strong enough to show us real emotion, and real thought.. Not everyone goes through what she has gone through, it would be great to hear her real voice and perspective.

No offence, but why are gay men so mean? You would think that after suffering hardship from the rest of society you all would be more understanding and sensitive. Guess not.

What is up with all the hate? Why must we try and tear each other down? But for the twist of fate anyone of us could be suffering drug addiction a real disease, just like cancer or heart disease, and should not be fodder for hate filled people to use as a weapon.

@Fitz:
Exactly. She can still sing but it’s not the Whitney that we all know and love. It could be the age, it could be the crack, it could be both.
She needs, to an extent, different material, different arrangements, etc. and she’ll be OK.

@Roy Pyatt:
There is no hate, or even meanness in my heart for her. I am commenting on her no longer being a 20 y/o with no real hardship in her heart or her voice. I would LOVE to hear a Whitney as Whitney album. Who applauds someone who pulls themselves up more than gay men?

Glad she’s back… Just stay off the crack chick.
