We already knew Zach Wahls was an amazing public speaker: He garnered millions of hits on YouTube with an address to the Iowa Legislature about his two moms and the need for marriage equality. Since then, he’s taken on the Boy Scouts’ ban on gays, and even published a memoir, My Two Moms.

Last night, in the hours before Barack Obama accepted the Democratic nomination, Wahls addressed delegates about the importance of accepting LGBT families—a real throughline at the convention this week.
