Fan fiction is a long tradition in graphic novel-dom. And now that somebody created a system of computers all connected together, it’s easy to create and share! Of particular interest, of course, is sex-themed fan fiction, and artist Ponderosa has turned her attention to Watchmen, creating a hot gay romance YOU NEVER KNEW EXISTED! Well, as one of those fanfic slash writers (though lesbian not straight), I can tell you that, from what I’ve seen and experienced, women (straight, bi, lesbian, queer) can and do come up with super-hot or incredibly sweet/romantic stories and art.
Why? Because everyone has fantasies and ideas and the internets offer a relatively “safe” medium in which to express said things. There are many female slashers (that is, women who like/love/are turned on by m/m pairings) who have no other outlet. Even now in the 21st Century (sad but true).
Odd. Two of the Minutemen (precursors to the Watchmen) were gay, iirc. Why didn’t she do them?

@Fausto Fernos: Trust me – if two characters exist, there is art and/or fanfictions of those characters together. Often works for three-ways amongst characters as well.
