We Might Get That Gay Cabinet Secretary After All

After the election, HRC made announced getting an openly gay cabinet member into the Obama administration was a key priority. Well, we might get one: Export-Import Bank chief Fred Hochberg is a contender for Secretary of Commerce.

“What I’ve been told is Fred very well regarded, he’s done a great job at the bank, and he’s one of the folks that they are looking at carefully for Commerce,” a source told the Washington Blade.

Hochberg, who lives in New York with his partner, writer Tom Healy, has previously worked for the Small Business Administration, the New School, Port Authority and the Lillian Vernon Corporation, which his mother, Lillian Hochberg founded.

Hochberg has also been active in the fight for LGBT equality: He’s a past chair of HRC and was ranked the 15th most powerful gay person in America by Out magazine in 2007.
