Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford avoided a potential shit storm this weekend. Langford raised some eyebrows last week when he said he wouldn't sign a permit for the Alabama city's gay pride parade. Realizing the gays would go for the jugular, he has now backed down, but made sure to inform queer citizens that he does not approve of "that lifestyle". [Birmingham News via PFLAG]

Yes, and our white brethren have been SO friendly and open to gay people; for example (DOMA, Don't Ask Don't Tell, the unfortuante murder of Matthew Shephard and Lawrence King, etc.) Is it only the black communtiies fault that gay people are discriminated against? The black community has homophobes and so does every other community. However, there are plenty in the black community that support us. You sound like the hetero community. They take the actions of one gay man or woman and attribute it to the entire community. The black community is huge and very diverse. Let's get a new strategy people.
