A new magazine catering exclusively to gay guys getting married is coming, pushing single gays all closer into the anxiety ridden ‘why am I not married’ phase that was previously exclusively relegated to single straight women.
Damn equality.
It’s called Groom and Guy (cute), and it’s unabashedly targeted at the “upscale gay wedding market.” Because, yes, that’s a thing.
The magazine is coming straight outta Sydney, and The Sydney Morning Herald has the scoop:
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
The first edition of Groom and Guy will be available in more than 1200 newsagents and stores on Thursday and features eight real wedding stories, and sections on fashion, honeymoons, tailoring and entertaining. Unashamedly aimed at high-end grooms, the magazine targets couples who are earning “$100,000 plus”.
OK, it’s more than a little barf-worthy, but still kinda adorable, especially if you’re in the market for this kinda thing.
Founder Matty Bulger told the Herald the magazine fills a niche for gay couples, who are generally both hands-on when it comes to wedding planning:
Mr Bulger believed gay wedding planning was a more egalitarian process than heterosexual weddings, where the bride tends to make most of the arrangements.
“With a gay couple generally it’s very heavily dictated by both of them and that’s a challenge in itself – how do they get what they both want and be happy with the day,” he said.
Groom and Guy will be published quarterly. You can pre-order the first issue here or find it when it hits newsstands across the world on June 2nd.

“high-end grooms, couples who are earning “$100,000 plus”? how large is this demographic?

@marionpage: 100,000 plus is really not a lot of money, especially if you’re talking about the couple’s combined income.
Marriage seems so 20th century to me though. To each his own, but I’m not sure why people get into it.

interesting thing about the wedding market is that people who have weddings are typically not repeat customers. It is interesting when you realize that the people mostly patronizing wedding sites and publications are people in the industry (photographers, wedding planners, venues etc.) rather than customers.

@MarionPaige: Is 100k still a lot these days? Back in Highs School I remember that being the amount you had to bring in to say “I’ve made it!” But now I make near that and I feel like it is never enough. I also am an emotional shopper (thanks mom) so I may just be bad with money…

I am planning my wedding now so this would’ve been helpful a little while ago. I have a lot of the things I want in place, but its not necessarily set in stone so I will have to check this out to see if anything interests me.

100k a year, not alot of money? Seriously? What are you people wasting your money on?

Why does Queerty or Bob Smith assume that single men are anxiety ridden about being single and why on earth should marriage equality make this supposed burden even harder to bear. I love that there is marriage equality but I don’t see the need for marriage for either gays or straights.
As for being single, if you are anxiety ridden about it I think you have bigger issues to address and that your anxiety is probably not helping you find a partner.

Reject this bourgeois hom0normativity. Embrace gay liberation. Remember, people didn’t die so that you could suffer in monogamous misery like millions of straight people. Create your own relationships as you see fit, and use “marriage” only to certify legal rights under the state, if you want them. But don’t let heteronormative ideas oppress you. Enjoy being single, coupled, tripled, whatever you like, so long as it’s with a consenting adult or adults of whatever gender or sex(uality).

So in other words, nobody should do what they want, they must abide by what YOUR determination of their lives should be. And equality in civil rights is EXACTLY what people died for. You may not want to get married, but not being told we CAN’T do what everybody else can is exactly what those battles were fought over.

@DCguy: Girl, don’t take my charge so literally, I never said you can’t get married. If you want to get married like straight people, do it! Do you. Live out that dream. But don’t feel bad if you don’t! That’s what people fought for. Not so that you could mimic straights, but so you’d have the right to choose. READING IS FUNDAMENTAL.
