So some Dutch activists, upset a Catholic priest last month wouldn’t grant communion to homogay Gijs Vermeulen, walked out of a Sunday mass yesterday, en masse. (The church was in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, a town we love because it begins with an apostrophe, which is so gay.) Actually, expecting the demonstration, the church decided not to grant communion that day. Some of protesters were wearing pink winks and pink clothing, so it was even more of a spectacle. [BBC]

I wish that all the glbt religious groups in the US would take action like this, instead of being second class members of their faiths, and accepting treatment as exiles. It’s time for people to really go public in their churches, temples, synagogues, chapels, etc.

… it’s already been done in the U.S. Check out
http://www.qdomine.com/Morality_pages/MHR.htm (the web site belongs a “conservative” Catholic group, complaining about a Catholic parish in San Francisco). It has a couple of videos on it. Scroll down for the first.
What was actually going on was that on this particular Sunday was the one for the annual Castro Street Fair, so a lot of people were dressed casually as they were going directly to the fair afterwards. Two members of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence showed up in full attire – they were going to be collecting donations at the fair and didn’t have time to go home to change first. Meanwhile the doddering archbishop officiated and was probably running on autopilot, having gone through a communion ritual many thousands of times and didn’t think twice. Someone filmed it, probably using a cell phone camera, and when the conservatives saw it, the you know what hit the proverbial fan.
By some freak of nature, I ran into one of the two “sisters” on the street a couple of weeks later, and asked what really happened (the conservative media was then having a cow), and found out that the “sister” in question was actually a devout Catholic and a Republican, and he said he didn’t have time to go home to change if he was going to be at the fair in time (the money they collect is used for charitable purposes). They didn’t show up in their outfits as a stunt, but rather they were simply dressed for work that day.

what’s a ‘pink wink’? and I think you love the town BECAUSE it begins with an apostrophe, not become.
Is someone writing these articles on a PDA that is autofilling in text?

‘s is a contraction of “des,” the genitive form of “the,” with which anyone who speaks German will be familiar. It’s archaic, Dutch doesn’t have declensions anymore.

I didn’t know there were so many Dutch catholics! Queerty can be educational!
Chicago has a branch of the “Purple Sash” [is that the right color?] who attend mass en masse, and they have been refused communion as well. They carry signs in front of the cathedral, too.
Having dated and cohabitated with a “gay, devout, Catholic” years ago, I still can’t get it through my head why someone would want to be true to church that considers
us “morally disordered.” but I that’s their right. I don’t know if these protests do any good in changing church policy, but far be it from me to tell them not to protest.
I’ll save my story about the Jesuit priest who liked to be spanked for another day!

Homosexuals are more than welcome to leave the Church if they do not wish to follow her sacred dogma and institutional policy.
The so-called “Roman Catholics” who show an intense disobedience and defiance in that church by wearing their pink triangle symbols and yelling out across during the Eucharistic mass are clearly not practicing Roman Catholics. The Church is a hierarchy of clergy NOT a democracy, and it never will be.
How disturbing it is to see those two Lesbian women picking out hosts in a pink bucket. What sacrilege to the Catholic religion. Are those hosts consecrated by a Priest? Have they been blessed by the Church? Have they been turned from Bread into the ACTUAL body and blood of Jesus Christ as taught by the Roman Catholic church? My guess is not.
Perhaps they were just treating the Eucharistic host like a lunch snack—–as shown in that despicable video. I bet you a thousand pounds they do not even realize that a consecrated Eucharistic host by the Church is no longer “bread” or “wine”—-it is the ACTUAL Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. It’s called the doctrine of Transubstantiation. But of course, Sodomites do not know/believe this.

The Catholic Church must be comprehensively destroyed for the good of humanity. There is no god. You have wasted your life on a lie. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you can start enjoying a life free of paralyzing guilt.
I have seen many former Catholics leave their cult behind and flourish into a happy, well-adjusted life. That life could be yours, all you have to do is take that step.

Is Any Religion Worth Saving?
The Christian religion will be a dead religion and consigned to the dust bin of primitive myth-based beliefs by the middle of this century, I predict. Unless it begins to evolve into more social relevancy, most remnants of the Christian religion will only survive to serve the ends of despots and political manipulators — much of which has already come to pass.
I’m sorry, but ask yourself this: if humans were to someday find a cure for death, would we even be having this discussion? Most religions are rooted in the fear of dying: loss of self — nothing more. And, unlike Buddhism, Abrahamic religions don’t really offer anything beyond the promise of the preservation of the self in its present form of consciousness. No real re-birth or evolution beyond the material sense of self — just a continuation of it in some “spiritual realm”. How sad and how limiting.

@Roman Catholic: So, how do you account for the priests who attempted to have sex with minors? And who actually did rape?
Were they Men of God? Were they sanctified and Holy?
How do you explain how the Church sent one child-abusing priest from one parish to the next?
terrwill
How bout a new rule? You diddle kids and you can’t give communnion…….Think there may be a shortage?????

The situation has changed, one of the priests in the video changed his mind and now leaves it upto the gays themselves. Also, various Dutch Catholic groups stated their disgust with these conservative RC priests. The majority of the Dutch Catholics support gays&lesbians, and gay marriage as well. Its not like in the US, where the fundi’s dominate.
I guess the protest has made some priests think.

Some Protestants don’t “know/believe” this either, as their doctrines claim the term “body and blood” is symbolic. Lutherans have a version that sort of splits the difference.
In any case, just because it is someone’s doctrine doesn’t make it true. It’s not like someone took some of the wine allegedly transubstantiated into blood and ran some DNA tests on it and found some DNA (and blood cells) where there had been none before.
But look at the bright side. At least they no longer kill each other and torture people over arguments about which doctrine should be accepted. Personally, I think any sensible person would stay with your “Sodomites”. It’s a lot more pleasant, or at least a lot less painful, to have a “hot dick” shoved up your butt than a red-hot poker.

Mine is a question that i really need answered.
Why would you belong to an institution that hates you? Any one please answer?
Its ridiculous and well ridiculous. Is it some sort of sado thingy? Its like wearing your best suit and traipsing up the steps to a church that you know will not marry you for being gay and you are somehow offended.
Its sad really..fucking sad. Why not stop fighting a lost battle?

…. As I recall, the composer Hector Berlioz answered that one!
He said that the Catholic Church was the pride and joy of his life for a full 5 years. At the age of five, he realized what they were saying. Before that, he just listened to the music. As fate would have it, Berlioz ended up writing a lot of religious music. Partly it was because he liked to write compositions for a very large orchestra, and you could only afford that for a state or church function.
The serious answer is that you might stay in such a church because you have family members who are in it and it is easier to remain a member than to end up in a family argument. Maybe you only go to church when you are visiting your mother, but she’ll probably believe what she wants to believe, so a token appearance suffices for her to think you are as devout as she wants you to be. It’s not like she has to know that usually you are too tired to get up for church Sunday morning after having won the wet underwear contest the previous night.
