What Does the Alcatraz Ferry Operator Hate More: Gay Employees? Or Unionizing Employees?

Last year Vincent Atos was fired from his three-year gig as a ferry operator for Hornblower Cruises, which operates the Alcatraz ferry in San Francisco. Atos claims his removal was because superiors felt he “acted too gay” — in making sexually suggestive comments that, his supporters at the Harvey Milk LGBT Club say, his co-workers also made (in a workplace environment where his manager felt okay to watch porn). Or maybe he was fired because, uh, he was trying to unionize employees, and employers hate that sort of thing? Still not a legal reason to fire someone, of course.
