“First and foremost, I am an athlete and always have been. I want to pursue other interests, but I also feel that I still have more to give to a sport that has given me everything,” says Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek. “I have a lot of other interests…. Movies, design, other sports, literature, photography, fashion, travel, music, etc.” And, apparently, dancing. The heterosexual figure skater has signed on to the new season of Dancing With the Stars, and thus dropped out of this month’s 2010 World Championships in Torino. So much for giving more to the sport that gave him everything. Well, for now.
(Actually, we’re unreasonably excited to see Evan dance. We might even start watching the show live instead of waiting for the YouTube clips.)

Great news! I can’t wait to see him on there. Would love to see Johnny Weir on the show in the future.

I really have no interest in seeing him on there, to be honest. I think Johnny Weir would’ve been more enjoyable to watch + more entertaining.

I was really happy that Evan won Olympic Gold http://elizabethely.com/2010/02/19/lysacek-gold-plushenko-silver/ but was disappointed that he chose not to defend his title at the World Championships. Albeit intriguing to see him dance.
It really does beg the question of whether or not those who win the Olympics owe something to their sport in the way of a World Appearance, especially since that’s when the number of skaters each country can send to next year’s Worlds is determined. http://elizabethely.com/2010/03/28/world-figure-skating-championships-in-olympic-year/
