Whether the 24 men arrested and released in Senegal on Christmas Eve for “homosexual activities” were just enjoying some cocktails and sunshine together, or engaged in raucous group sex, it will probably make little difference to a sentencing judge, which can levy five-year prison sentences if the men are found guilty. And despite Senegalese Foreign Minister Madicke Niang claiming earlier this month that there’s “no question that homosexuality will be decriminalised in Senegal,” history speaks loudly.
