In it, Dick Coughlan spits out a truly memorable rant first noting how no one feels surprised when anti-gay politicians get discovered with rentboys and then moving onto the absurdity of Sao Paulo’s upcoming “straight pride parades.” He says that apart from pride parades, the only special privilege that queers have in Brazil is that one gets murdered every 36 hours. Troof!

Straight pride? Why, if one ‘em shows me a picture of their kids or grandkids one more time, I’ll scream! Why, it’s a daily parade with those people, in the marriage announcements, the baby announcements, the Jerry Springer show, and the defendant’s block when they try to soften the reasons for their murderous rampages against each other. Straight pride? My my, are they sore afraid — of us; fear is nothing to be prideful of. Meanwhile, I’ve never been proud I’m gay — I’m proud I survived the onslaught of the parade of heteros who demanded I join their incessant pride parade, or else. (And if you don’t read that with arch ironic voice, can’t help you.)

Given that the biggest homophobes tend to be deeply closeted gays, they actually do have something to be proud of if they’ve manage to be technically straight: it’s similar to a vegan who really likes meat bragging about being able to stick to a vegan diet when his boss takes the group to a steak house for lunch.

He’s got a rather distracting birthmark. However, I like his message. He can pass the time. What’s called for is the perfect combination of perpetually outraged british youtube opinionators; a happy medium of patrick condell (too boomer neoliberal) and richard coughlin (too multiculturalist naive).

I appreciate his comments on what Pride is really about. It’s easy to forget that Pride isn’t necessarily that we’re proud, but that we aren’t ashamed.

Am I offended by the idea of “straight” “pride”? You bet I am. The idea that that a group of heretic perverts who spread their sexual imperialism throughout the world and justify it based in a perversion of Judaic texts have anything to be proud of is anti-gay to the core. Even referring to breeders as “straight” is homophobic because it implies there is something inherently wrong with us. The exact opposite is true.
