What’s Worse for Queen Latifah: Outed As Gay, Or Outed for Loving Strippers?

latifahnatlenq

Queen Latifah is not even a “secret” lesbian these days. Aside from opting not to acknowledge her sexuality to the press, she’s about as out as she can be. Or at least she is after these photos, published this week bythe (surprisingly accurate) National Enquirer, reveal the actress-singer and her “galpals” enjoy getting together at private homes to drink enjoy the company of strippers.

When it comes to being gay, Latifah has never opened up, telling reporters only that she doesn’t think someone’s sexuality is worthy of public scrutiny. But aside from constant industry rumor-mongering, there was the lawsuit from former employees and gay club sightings to confirm things.

And now, the type of publicity nobody really wants: getting photographed with strippers. Being gay aside, this is not good for Latifah’s image. She’s a CoverGirl and, off-screen, manicures a wholesome image. Paying naked strippers to show up at your house, as the Enquirer claims, is not good for cosmetics contracts. Unless you’re Johnny Knoxville, a reputation as a stripper enthusiast is bad for business; Michael Phelps learned that already.

If the story gains traction — which it may not, because less shady entertainment media outlets usually leave closeted gay celebs alone — the best defense for Latifah, then, will actually be to come out … as someone in a committed, long-term relationship with Jeannette Jenkins.
