You may only know Pat Sajak from the past 2,348 years he’s spent hosting super-gay contestants on Wheel Of Fortune, but he’s also well-known for his conservative leanings, and a recent tweet seems to be taking jabs at the gays.
Taking time out of a presumably grueling and busy schedule of reading flashcards and spinning wheels, he felt the need to post the following tweet:
Oh, Pat. While coming out as heterosexual is a bold career move for an octogenarian such as yourself, we’re gonna go out on a limb and guess that most people don’t have interest in your sex life either way.
When LGBT entertainers come out they do so to be open and proud and to educate a heteronormative society that assumes heterosexuality from all.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
But don’t worry Pat, you’re able to get in on at least a bit of the action because you did come out today: as a total d_uch_b_g.
We’re looking for three vowels here. Can anyone help us out?
Palto
Yes because that’s why it’s important for gay people to come out you teabagging douchebag.
Billy Budd
Idiot.
Cam
Oh, it’s EXACTLY the same thing!
I hear that Donald Trump Jr. is going to come out of the closet as having been born rich and white in New York city.
Tackle
Thank God he didn’t spin the gay way! The straights can have him and keep him.
redcarpet
I feel bad for Vana having to put up with him all these years.
Desert Boy
Pat Sajak Is An A _ _ hole
“May I has an “s”?
“There are two “s'”
HirsuteOne
Based on the hair and the outfits, I don’t think anyone was confused…
yaletownman
I remember as a kid in Nashville he was our NBC affiliates weatherman. He looked like a bad Southern Baptist minister then and still does. Of course he doesn’t get that proclaiming is heterosexuality does nothing for reinforcing a belief in others that is what he really is. Obviously he’s never learned the meaning of “thou doth protest too much!”
misterheck
For a second, I was shocked that Pat Sajak was in his 80s. That is what octogenarian means, after all. But it turns out he’s only 67. Making him a sexagenarian. But I suppose Queerty wouldn’t want to associate him with “sex,” so they had to put him down by calling him “old.” Because, you know, being old is a totally terrible thing to be.
DarkZephyr
“When LGBT entertainers come out they do so to be open and proud and to educate a heteronormative society that assumes heterosexuality from all.”
And to show young and in the closet LGBT people that they are not alone.
Ann Mason
Pat Sajak can thank Merv Griffin he has a career as a game show host.
wollam11
Rob Smith: I don’t think octogenarian means what you think it means.
Ken
It was a joke. As a sexagenarian myself, who has lived through many horrors, I thought it was funny. Come on, guys, it presupposes that it’s okay to come out.
DarSco
Lighten up it was a joke!
Sammy Schlipshit
@Ann Mason:
Is this what passes for attempted humor(?) from republican’t conservatives…or what passes for that these days?
Pat must not have had a repulsion of gays back in the day.
One just doesn’t get much more gay or queer than Merv Griffin…and I know what I’m talkin’ about.
Merv’s ‘kept boy’ lived up the street from me in Monterey.
NH Mike
He should declare it on his talk show as well. Oh, wait…
Kieran
Nothing at all flip or funny about the fact that gay people are subject to losing their jobs across America if discovered to be gay. I predict an apology will be issued shortly over Sajak’s brain-fart.
BJ McFrisky
People actually find this inconsequential comment offensive?
Man, talk about your manufactured outrage.

New puzzle: Category – “News We could give a Crap about”
P_t S_j_k s_cks c_ck. Only vowels left!
flexdoc
Another great talent heard from.
Maybe he should take off Vanna White’s used underwear.
DuMaurier
People, people…okay, it was a little snarky, but it ain’t all THAT serious. (Our famously irreverent sense of humor seems to desert us at the oddest times)
TinoTurner
God, for a buncha homos that made Lady Gaga famous, you all seem a bit uptight on here.
Throbert McGee
Word up to DuMaurier and TinoTurner!
Throbert McGee
Really? For some bizarre reason, I thought that the usual reason was to get their names back in the headlines, or to win a GLAAD Courage Award, or to ensure permanent loyalty from undiscriminating LGBT fans who will applaud absolutely any public mediocrity [waving to Margaret Cho] who tells gay people who super-wonderful they are.
manjoguy
Appreciate the humor there. But, more importantly, most heteros (contrary to what we gays might think), don’t really care about “…our sex life” either way. They just don’t want it in their faces all the time. I think you’ll find a fair number of people with a “live and let live” mentality. But when the far right and left start putting it in one’s face, it “bristles” some people.
David Gervais
manjoguy: As if Pat Sajak and Vanna White aren’t ‘putting hetero sexuality in one’s face’.
Clark
Sheesh…these kinds of “stories” really show you who the bitter queens are. Chill and take a pill.
It should show you just how silly all the un-shocking coming out tabloid headlines are.
joebatch
This should not be a shock coming from him. Anyone who remembers his vile, snarky comments after President Obama was elected and they were hateful, vile, bigoted and nasty.(think donald trump’s twin brother) He showed just what kind of so called human he is. I have since stopped watching wheel of fortune because of him.
yupwhatever
I wasn’t offended or shocked over his tweet, but I get how some can be upset over it, especially those who have lost their jobs/careers because they’re gay. It happens all of the time unfortunately. Clearly, he’s just trying to be funny and means no harm, but he does come off a bit ignorant. Sorry all you Sajak lovers.
“But, more importantly, most heteros (contrary to what we gays might think), don’t really care about “…our sex life” either way. They just don’t want it in their faces all the time.”
Interesting, since it’s usually heteros that can’t help but shove their heterosexuality in our faces every frickin’ day of the week!
DarkZephyr
@BJ McFrisky: I think people are just wondering what could have motivated him to make light of the LGBT experience. I am not sure curiosity is the same thing as “outrage”, manufactured or not.
DarkZephyr
Is there anyone who could possibly direct me to a comment made by BJ McFrisky that is in support of the LGBT community? I mean, has it EVER happened even once in the history of mankind’s existence?
BJ McFrisky
@DarkZephyr: Why, yes. Yes it has.
LegalMaestro
Well that makes sense…he does work with a big giant rainbow wheel…
tardis
Pat’s comment is in such poor taste, considering how hard it is for some to come out and live a closeted life.
manonyme
It’s always been a sub-par experience for me…I’m more of jeopardy person actually –
Seems like he and Vanna need to fuel up on Margarita’s to get through the constant barrage of consonants and ‘Can I buy a vowel?’
Cam
@Throbert McGee:
And once again, Throbert (And his other name BJ) attack gays and defend anybody that isn’t gay or mocks them.
Again, at least you two are consistent.
Just curious. If they came up with a pill to make you straight how fast would you rush over to the clinic and demand it?
Bryguyf69
I can only hope that Sajak was drunk again when he tweeted that. I’d hate to think that a public figure would be stupid enough to do that sober and unprovoked. For those who don’t know, Sajak admitted to being drunk while on the air.

Bryguyf69
@wollam11: Rob was exaggerating on purpose when he called Sajak an octogenarian.
AxelDC
Nice joke at the expense of gay people. The trauma of coming out must be so funny to him.
AxelDC
If you have to tell people you’re a lady, you’re not.
DarkZephyr
@Throbert McGee: We ARE super wonderful for the most part. 😀 Its not OUR fault if you can’t be great like the rest of us!
GlitterKidder
Oy Vey! Stick to your day job Pat, you’re no comedian. But, you did make my ass suck wind.
merijustus
Well i am glad he is hetro, hes not good enough to be Gay. and what self respecting Gay man would want him any way.
1EqualityUSA
Forgive him. He’s compensating for the fact that he’s done a silly job for way too many years. I contend that he curls up in a fetal position and cries when he has to go out and do that stupid show. I’d drink too!
sejjo
I’m gonna go out on a limb here. Is it ‘oea’?
martinbakman
Queerty acknowledged how Jeopardy placed a flamboyant (and smart as a whip) gay guy on the show recently and not long after that I watched a very L young woman kick ass on Wheel of Fortune. I thought that in each case Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek were awesome towards their LGBT contestant, but Alex Trebek was definitely the warmest and most awesome host towards his gay boy contestant. All straight men could take a lesson. Alex was awesome.
Bryguyf69
@martinbakman: You’re right. I have archival footage from 2014 of Sajak treating an openly gay contestant very warmly. We know that he is gay because he mentioned his husband in the intro. If I’m not mistaken, Sajak may have even acknowledged the husband or relationship at the end (gay dude was the major winner). I’ll upload it to YouTube or DudeTube if I find the footage.
Bryguyf69
@martinbakman: Of current game show hosts, the most gay-friendly may be Terry Crews of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. He was very playful toward, and even hugged, a VERY flamboyant presumably-gay contestant. To be fair, most game shows aren’t formatted to allow that kind of interaction. So even if Trebek or Sajak are horny for a male contestant, we wouldn’t know until the very end. Millionaire is unique in that there are no official time limits and the host stands just a few feet from the contestants. That allows for banter, and frequent hugs when a contestant gets excited. I’ll upload the footage.
denny155
Ahhhhhhhhh, Oh yeah, He’s douche.
John
Everyone has lost their sense of humor.
TheBigOne
I’d do him, have always enjoyed older men 🙂 even if they lean conservative (they make the best bottoms!)
Ima Tiered
My goodness, must have been a slow news day that day, eh? Interesting what passes for news when someone wants to make a mountain out of a mole hill! As my sweet OLD 90 YO Gramma used to say, “If you want to find something to be mad about, you do not have to look very far! Chances are, there is some JERK pounding the drum!” Could that be you, Queerty? Some say bottom, I say A@@!
