The only outrage I could possibly feel is if they brought charges against the person who kills all of them. They should be given the medal of freedom.

Actually, I’m pretty sure (I could be wrong, but I don’t think so) that if the government takes a look at the evidence, they could at least say “mmmmmmNO” and remove their tax-exempt status and start pressing charges for crap like “Thank God for dead soldiers.”
To this day, I hope the little boy I saw with Shirley Phelps remembers his granny spitting on me, and remembers me turning my head to show her my other cheek, smiling, and saying “Jesus loves you. Do you love him?” and walking away. I know the odds are so, so low, but I do hope.

As much as I hate Westboro, the point of the 1st amendment is to protect ALL speech including unpopular and hateful speech. This is wrong.

@Daffles: While I wouldn’t ask that the government to take away their freedom of speech, I would ask that they impose the same regulations on them that they impose on other non-profits. When we started our local PFLAG chapter, the regional director stressed how important it is to refrain from political activity. If they want to mouth off like the rest of us, they should have to pay like the rest of us.

What sort of ‘regulation’? Revoking their tax exempt status is a no-brainer and it has been done before with the racist Bob Jones University and was ruled constitutional by SCOTUS.

I don’t condone violence, but in all honesty, I’ve been driven to fantasize about violent acts against these sub-humans. Their only purpose is to damage and injure, so not only should they be designated a hate group, they should be deemed so in a giant vat of boiling vomit. Gay vomit. From which only the military can save them.
Having said that, I feel compelled to point out to the editors that the name of the CT town is Newtown, not Newton.
