They want people to think that he has somehow lost his mind, rather than come to his senses about their misdeeds and decided to blow the whistle. This only supports the oft-made contention that dissent or candor are unwelcome within the Bush administration, and only really come to light after people leave and write tell-all books. I'm not excusing McClellan for his part in this evil regime, but as a PR rep, I recognize the forces at play.
