Who Will Serve First on Navy Submarines: Openly Gay Men or a Woman?

submarinebunks

Making good on Defense Sec. Robert Gates’ promise to lift the ban on women serving aboard submarines, the Navy officially ended the ban on Wednesday night, when the clock struck midnight. Some eight guided-missile attack submarines and ballistic missile submarines will each begin seeing three women join their crews — in some 15 months, when they finish the training sessions. Depending on Sen. Carl Levin’s timeline, maybe we’ll have openly gay sailors aboard submarines before then? Heh. Isn’t that a ridiculous race to have.
