Okay, America: Next time you see a couple of homosexuals hugging in public, or a parent and child arguing over one of them being gay, or a gay kid being tormented by bullies, it’s probably ABC’s What Would You Do? rolling hidden cameras while you either freak out, come to their rescue, or ignore ’em. Actually, it likely isn’t — which means even if you suspect you are being filmed for a television show, step in and say something. Or not, in case it’s a couple of soldiers returning from war who are just delighted to see each other. Alive. (Special snaps to the Vietnam War veteran who, while he didn’t know the men were portraying a gay couple, doesn’t give two shits about their public affection.)

What a great story. As a Air Force vet released under DADT, this story did my heart good and brought a few tears to my eyes. I am so happy to see the support for our gay troops. Thanks for bringing this into the light.

I liked this story too, even though apparently it got pulled at the last minute from the “What Would You Do” episode due to ‘technical difficulties.’ But it’s still encouraging to know that in a fairly average room, there always seems to be at least one person willing to come to the defense of an ‘other.’
Adam
Wow, that was really really wonderful. I initially expected the worst, that not only would no one defend them, but also speak out against them too. Complete opposite of what I expected. It gives me hope for humanity, y’know?
Cam
Ok, have to admit, I teared up a bit at this one. Great story.
j dawg
in uniform besides homecomings and sending offs their shouldn’t be much personal affection shown. Either gender.
CAMBS
This made me happy. Shame it was only 8 minutes long.
Flipper
@j dawg: In case you didn’t notice, J Dawg, the scenario was a homecoming. Even if it weren’t, though, it’s really none of your business either way, is it? Showing affection – to whomever – doesn’t take anything away from the uniform. Grow up. And learn the proper forms of their/there/they’re.

It’s true that affection between men – even if it is not sexually motivated – is frowned upon by liberals. Liberals – especially liberal women – are extremely jealous of male-male affection. It takes attention away from their fragile female egos, which are constantly demanding attention.
You also see this female disdain for male-male affection in how women promote double standards in many related things. You only have to observe two heterosexual couples farewelling each other to see how women promote double standards by their behavior.
Stanley
Public displays of affection are NOT appropriate between men. Especially if they are in the military.
While it is true that women are making huge strides in society (women earn more than men in certain fields, and now more women then men attend college), when it comes to defense and the military, it is still a male dominated culture.
Public displays of affection between men portray weakness and a betrayal of their masculinity.
While this may not mean much to the general public, in the military, this can send a message of weakness to enemies, and put our soldier’s lives increasingly at risk.
Soupy
Public affection between men and women is not appropriate. It displays human feeling and weakness to the world.
DJ
I agree sexual orientation shouldn’t be flaunted GAY OR STRAIGHT. But if it happens to come up, I think someone should feel free to say and be who they are.
McMike
@Stanley: WTF are you talking about? Do you know what courage and strength it takes if you’re a gay man to show affection to another man in public? You have no idea, I assume, what it’s like to be an out and proud gay man. Your comments are beyond obnoxious and WTF are you doing trolling a gay web site. Men, like you, would crumble in a heartbeat if they were forced to be an out and proud gay man in society. It really ikrs me to hear crap like this when you, nor anyone else that hasn’t faced such situations, knows what it’s like to hold the hand of another man when you’re out in public. It’s complete bullshite you think it’s a sign of weakness when it takes way more courage then you’ll ever possess.
btw, yeah, this story was great. It gave me a lump in my throat because I live in a part of town where being an out and proud gay man makes you isolated. Fortunately there are those of us who have the balls to keep pushing the limits and fortunate enough to have the ability to tackle such crap head-on and to make some difference.

QUEERTY: “Who’s Going To Freak Out About Seeing 2 Affectionate Gay Soldiers In Public?”
The funny answer would be there non-military boyfriends, the only ones with a legitimate reason to object!

This is like a DOUBLE bonanza: Jason and step-brother Stanley trolling back to back! Except Jason forgot to mention porn, and Stanley forgot to mention how hawt he thinks military men are.

Back to the story: Yes, I got a little misty eyed too. Glad to see our gay troops met with open minds and hearts.
@Jeremy: thanks for posting. Visit again soon.
Stanley
@Jeffree: I do find military men to be really hot, actually. I like men who are conservative, and military men (even the gay ones) tend to be more conservative & Republican than civilians.
Stanley
@Jeffree: Oh, and by the way, I’m also a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), so I like a man who knows how to shoot a gun.

LOL Horrible acting!!!

Welcoming your buddy back home after a tour is one thing, rubbing each others legs and stroking each others hair, is sexual in nature. Gay or straight, in uniform it is inappropriate.
Soupy
Out of uniform it is a bad thing and inappropriate too, gay or straight. You must think like Stanley, sex is bad and should only be used for procreation.
Shannon1981
this is truly touching. I wouldn’t expect so many to come to defense.
Soupy
And Stanley, as a gay man, you have no right to own a gun. The likelihood of you using it on yourself is much higher than a straight man.

I was about to not watch it thinking I couldn’t take the negativity they were going to get, but to my surprise….
I just hope it wasn’t edited to look that way?
JP
What a fantastic story. I honestly thought it would another sad story – isn’t that a shame that I thought that. But a lovely surprise actually.
