Who’s This Maryland Democrat Trying to Ban Gay Marriages From Other States?
He’s Baltimore’s Emmett Burns, and with HB 90 he wants to make sure Maryland will never recognize a gay marriage from another jurisdiction. Like that evil Washington D.C.! The state’s attorney general, Douglas Gansler, will soon release the state’s official legal opinion on whether Maryland is required to recognize such unions, and Burns’ timing is no coincidence. But watch as he makes a gay joke in defending his bill: “The issue is knocking on our doors. People will be flying over here, wanting to force us to accept their marriage licenses. Our back door is open, and it needs to be closed.” J’dore! [Baltimore Sun]
Hey you miserable old fool! Remember not too long ago when you were forced to sit at the back of the bus? And there were laws preventing you from marrying who you wanted? I will again and always say: even if you think same sex marriage is a sin or whatever, don’t you think our country has much more serious problems to apply your time to fixing? Social Security mess, insurance for all, etc.?
This is the third time he’s introduced the bill – last time was in 05 and died from lack of support.
The interesting part (ad probably why it always dies) is that he adds in the language:
(C) MARRIAGES BETWEEN INDIVIDUALS OF THE SAME SEX ARE AGAINST THE PUBLIC POLICY OF THIS STATE.
I can imagine that including that will make it harder to gain SSM in Maryland….so thank goodness he’s a failure.
