Why Is Martina Navratilova Taking 2 Months Off From Divorce Court?

This just in: Tennis star Martina Navratilova asked the court for a 75-day continuance in her divorce proceedings with Toni Layton, according to her publicist's statement, who calls the length of the break "unusual." Maybe it's Navratilova's way of finding time to sit down with Layton to discuss a settlement, rather than crapping all over gay rights by saying her relationship with Layton shouldn't "count" as marriage.

It's not a marriage, it's not a divorce, it's a separation in a relationship. Don't understand the extremists who just don't get it.

It sounds awful, but really, if MN didn't marry her (whether she *could have* or not) then she didn't agree going into the relationship that she would hand over anything if and when they split up. Certainly it would be nice if she gave TL something, but to expect a legal divorce when there was no legal marriage is just nuts. It's not saying that lesbian couples are less than straight couples; if anything, it's more evidence that marriage should be not only allowed, but encouraged. But what kind of sense is it supposed to make to say that even if you can't have the rights and responsibilities of a marriage you still get the obligations that follow a divorce?

@LoveMoby:

I think you meant that she had the "balls" to come out. Balls is more accurate than "guts".

To me it is NOT a marriage.. And should not be treated like one. We only have the right to marry in certain states. In other states it is not legal. So……….
