Why Missouri Is Honoring Dead Highway Trooper Dennis Engelhard With A Piece Of Road + Discrimination

Missouri will honor fallen gay Highway Patrol trooper Dennis Engelhard by naming a section of Interstate 44 after him. Engelhard, who was struck last Christmas by an oncoming vehicle while waiting for help with a stranded motorist, apparently means so much to the department that he’s being honored by name, but his partner (and now widower) Kelly Glossip was refused any partner death benefits.

that is sad, as somebody from St. Louis I’ve heard a lot about this case. It sucks that he doesn’t get the benefits, but they can’t just all the sudden give them to a widower if the benefits never existed in the first place. I’m sure many wish there was more they could do, but too bad that’s how the rules are now. Hopefully it will inspire a movement for change in the future
