We’ve heard from Lt. Col. Victor Fehrenbach before. And we’ll continue hearing from him, and sharing his story, until Barack Obama suspends Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and makes a real effort to repeal the law. Fehrenbach will be at the White House’s no-longer-secret meeting; he hopes to get a chance to speak with his commander-in-chief.

I takes just as much time to put a stop loss in as it took to file DOJ DOMA or sign a pointless set of rights. So, Obama is just not using his time wisely on this issue. I’m personally sick of the “he has only been in office for xxx days” approach. Hopefully, Obama figures out that even if he has a secret deal with the HRC, the HRC definitely doesn’t speak for the gay public any longer and then starts listening to the actual public.

@galefan2004:
Being hasty with making such a political statement by signing executive orders to change laws can be political suicide if not taken with the appropriate planning before taking action. I still feel we need to be a bit more patient and allow some actual thought to be put into these changes (to ensure that there isn’t things overlooked that could be problems down the road) before it kills not only our chances for full equality, but also the presidents chances of keeping people in power who can make or break these changes on his side. If he kills his approval rating right at the begining of his term, then he won’t be able to make other important changes for the rest of the country. There are more than just us in this country afterall. Remember, patience is a virtue! 🙂
MR
He’s hurting his approval rating among supporters by looking like a heartless bastard who’s not true to his campaign promises. The republicans are getting what they want without even having to look like the bad guys because of his appeasement approach and foot dragging. They would look like complete bastards protesting a stoploss order and insisting on the dismissal of people Lt Colonel Victor Fehrenbach and Lt Choi before congress got a chance to examine DADT. Instead Obama looks like the bastard and a liar as well.
Truman signed an executive order to racially integrate the military. The complainers just had to go along and deal with it and they did. Clinton hesitated, dithered and set up a 6 month study period when it came to gays in the military. During that time the right wing worked hard to undermine him and build popular strength behind them. The quick and firm route Truman took is the effective way of handling these matters.

@AlanInSLC:
Patience may be a virtue but your stupidity is no excuse … as MR perfectly deconstructs.
He/she could have added that, contrary to your willful ignorance, an executive order … which Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid [hardly Mr. Hasty] and 77 members of Congress say he CAN and SHOULD issue…would not “change” any law.”
“things overlooked that could be problems down the road”???? Opening the military to OUT gays is not brain surgery, or even “going where no man has been before.” Stop-loss goes ALL THE WAY BACK TO WORLD WAR II when known gays were allowed to serve whenever they needed more bodies.
In one instance, some soldiers WHO HAD BEEN CONVICTED OF SODOMY were ordered back to duty AFTER prison!!!
The result of a freeze today: Yesterday serving “in the closet”…tomorrow serving out of the closet…IF they choose to [which research suggests most wouldn’t…few come out even after it’s OK.]
Or are you just another Obambot troll who’ll say anything to defend your Coward-in-Chief?
edgyguy1426
@AlanInSLC: But how can you kill your approval rating over this, when the majority of the population are already behind this. And since 99% of the presidents’ approval ratings only decline during their administrations, it sooner rather than later for DADT.
edgyguy1426
@Michael @ LeonardMatlovich.com: Disagreement is one thing and educating someone on a vital issue is another, but how can you convince someone when you hit them with the label of ‘stupid troll’? I just don’t get it.
glennmcgahee
Obama’s approval rating among some of us began when he broke his very first “There will be NO LOBBYISTS IN MY ADMINISTRATION”. Exceptions were made from the get go. Funny how the Republicans have become major supporters of Obama since he took office. If we give him a little more time, he’ll win by a landslide in 2012 with all the support he’s gettin from right wingers.

Stupid is as stupid does and it’s not my responsibility to either ignore it or show it respect. I write what I write in response to it to inform those who can be informed not the invincibly ignorant source. If you want to wear white gloves and hold your pinky delicately aloft while such life-affecting things are being discussed, that’s YOUR choice.
And the Obambots are trolling everywhere tirelessly throwing distortions, distractions, denials, demonizations like so much shit at blog walls hoping it will stick to someone and insulate Barack from further criticism. I choose to hose the walls down whenever I can and, again, owe the Otrolls nothing.
Whichever hat Alan arrived under is irrelevant to me.
