In any other city, were the headquarters of a AIDS services organization to move a few blocks, there would be barely a ripple of acknowledgment. But when the Gay Men’s Health Crisis moves from West 24th Street, in the heart of Chelsea in New York City, to the desert of West 33rd Street, there is uproar. And after much debate (and opposition from Larry Kramer), the organization is indeed decamping — to save some $24 million over the life of the new 8.5-year lease.
Hello:
I would encourage people to read the most up-to-date and accurate information about GMHC’s move on the website–www.gmhc.org–and then click on the frame “We’re moving.”
Thank you.

They’re moving to save 24 million dollars? Why would anybody have a problem with that!?

People getting crazy ofver moving a couple of blocks. Maybe because it’s not in such a fashiony part of town. People have to much free time on their hands. Including me
·
This is why the relocation is a scandal and an outrage:

They should rename it while they’re at it, GHMC is open to everyone, and the “middle class white gay men” types who founded it won’t even go there today.
unintended consequences….that porn shop/boothstore on 6th ave around the corner will probably go out of business.
