I love a lot of Elton songs but I think Daniel is my favorite. So smartly observant and sad.

I’m Still Standing- because it really speaks to Elton and who he is. He’s stood up for the last 40 years as an incredible entertainer and is still at the top of his game! AND its an incredibly catchy song.

Okay, I was going to do it. Tear old, fat Elton apart. But, I was touched by the number of fans here who obviously embrace him, so I will leave it alone. Now, please direct me to a story on Hillary Clinton, I’m sure there’s some sh it I can say about her. hahhahahaha. Elton fans kill me, seriously, you guys kill me. (Photoshop is Elton’s middle name). Okay, I have to stop there.
Take me to the Pilot.

Can’t you feel the love tonight!
Well actually he’s a bit shit and should’ve quit in the mid 80s to protect his legacy which from this vantage point can said to be a bit patchy — to put it generously.

Levon is my favorite. I have always enjoyed the story of the song, as the lyrics unfold you learn more and more about the people described in the song (i.e. Levon and his family). I was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer on November 13, 2015. Levon is one of the few songs that are my “anthems,” as I fight this with chemotherapy and other means. Fleetwood Mac’s, “don’t stop thinking about tomorrow” is the other. They bring me joy and hope in what frankly has been a pretty unfortunate situation over the past few months.
Ummmm Yeah
Screw this old traitor. Let Rush buy all his tickets.

Your song.

My favorite I think is “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” because it happens so rarely that people need to just stop and think and feel some love, and it will make their lives so much better. When we all give some love, then others will feel it!
tim.byron8
My definite favourite is “I’m Still Standing” from 1983s Too Low For Zero. Just over 3 years ago, my parents threw me out of their house and disowned me for being gay. This song has gotten me through many rough times as it speaks to me personally and emotionally. It has also become my life anthem because no matter what life throws at me, I know that I am still standing better than I ever did. I Plan to get the title of the song tattooed on my chest soon as well.

I would choose Skyline Pigen from his first album. While most won’t remember it I have never forgotten it. This was the song he sang at Ryan White’s funeral, backed by the young man’s school choirs which Elton took the time to teach the song to. If anyone does not know Ryan White was a young AIDS victim in the late 80’s who , in my opinion, did more to increase awareness of the disease than any person before or since. Amazingly he is also the sole reason Elton gives for his own return from the depths of drug addiction and despair. While Elton is many things , many things that a lot of gay men can recognize in ourselves, he is also a wonderful caring man which is shown in his devotion and love for this incredible young man who changed so many opinions on what it meant to have AIDS in America and how we dealt with it.

“Daniel” is my favorite Elton John tune. Love the 70’s ballad composition and it’s themes.

“Come Down in Time.” For the flawless and haunting match of music and lyrics; and perfect capture of the experience of a promise, the heightened awarness of every sense in anticipation of its fulfillment and, ultimately, the poignancy behind the realization that one has been rejected and left alone.

Candle in the Wind, it is so touching and the tribute to Princess Di makes it even more special!!!

Blue eyes- simply put! Every note played and lyric that sang out of that song made me a true believer that I could fall in love with my high school crush.

Yes, he is talented and I have like some of his songs over the years … BUT … many of his songs’ lyrics are unintelligible because he sounds like his mouth if full of cotton.

It’s trite, it’s hokey, it is even a little embarrassing, but nothing holds a candle to “Candle in the Wind.” Original written as an ode to Marilyn Monroe and was on, in my humble opinion, on Elton’s greatest album, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (GYBR).” The song wasn’t even released as single here in the US. As the documentary on the making of the GYBR, co-writer Bernie Taupin said, the song is about, “the idea of fame or youth or somebody being cut short in the prime of their life. The song could have been about James Dean, it could have been about Montgomery Clift, it could have been about Jim Morrison … how we glamorize death, how we immortalize people.” John dedicated the song to Ryan White at Farm Aid IV in 1997.
Having lived through the Gay Holocaust of the AIDS epidemic in San Francisco, I saw so, so many beautiful men, their lives cut incredibly short. People so young were dying every week and I associated the song with our hope to survive and our loss of so many good people.
Then Diana.
I never met Lady Diana, but she was just one more young person killed at the very beginning of her life. My friends at work and I stood in line to sign the book of condolences at the British consulate in San Francisco. The song has become almost indelibly linked to her. The single of the “Candle in the Wind 1997,” or “Goodbye England’s Rose,” as it is also known, has sold more single copies than any other single save Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas.”
The song has now transcended its original meaning, its original context, and has become a part of the grieving process. It is our song. The song we use to come to grip with unfathomable loss. It is Sir Elton John’s greatest song because it is now not just his, but ours.

Can You Feel the Love Tonight, simply because the sound of Nathan Lane’s voice singing it in The Lion King makes me smile.

Candle in the wind, so may memories from when I was younger. It just puts me on a certain mood… =)

Rocket Man. The story within the song (based on David Bowie’s Major Tom (character not song)) just evokes in me an emotion of sadness and wonder. A man trapped in space never to return home. It hits me every time.

Candle in the Wind 1997,” or “Goodbye England’s Rose.” I noticed the rules indicate, as stated in the article above, the winner will be chosen randomly (“We’ll select a winner at random.”). Thus, the more comments I make, the better my odds of winning. Originally, I wrote to indicate why I liked the particular song, but the choice won’t be based on the quality of writing, but random.

There, this will make four out fifty or so, or about one out of twelve. “Candle in the Wind 1997,” or “Goodbye England’s Rose.”

“The Bitch is Back” for many, many reasons!

levon. It is a timeless song. It is the first one of many that I fee in love with.
swalko0320
Your Song because of the pure raw emotions behind the lyrics. Its one of my all time favorite songs. And it is a song that is very popular amongst other artists in regards to covers so therefore it will remain popular with future generations as well.

Being comfortable and proud of my sexuality from a young age, I often turned to the music of Sir Elton John. Of course, everybody has a soundtrack of their life, those songs that take us back to such special moments. For me, only being just twenty years old, most of my soundtrack is comprised of Sir Elton’s timeless work. That being said, without the slightest doubt, my favorite is “Your Song” because it takes to me back to the moment when I met the love of my life. We were both seventeen years old. It was the unique period of transition between adolescence and adulthood. There was so much happening, so many questions. We weren’t sure of what life would become, but we were sure of one thing, each other. It was love at first sight. In that moment, we repeated the magical lyrics of Bernie Taupin, “yours are the sweetest eyes I’ve ever seen.” I had always said that Elton John’s “Your Song” would accompany me and my husband as we would share our first dance together, our wedding song. Looking back, this moment forever changed my life, and I am reminded of this when I hear “our song.”
