YES!

The twinkie could only sing ballads. Every timne he sang a song it sounded exactly the same. Always dull, flat and void of any true emotion. The more talented and better all around singer won. Good for America in picking the right person.

You know….really…whatever! They were both great. I never watched AI in the previous years, but these two Davids were consistently fantastic –each in their own ways. They will both have wonderful careers — singing their music for people who really appreciate them.

I loved them both. People are being overly harsh on young David. He is a prodigy. I don't know to many 17 year olds or 35 year olds for that matter who can sing that well. People are being so rude to him. He is still a kid. And I love the fact that he is just a kid, especially when so many 17 year olds want to be grown. He will have plenty of time to develop into a great performer.

Lost interest after Amanda Overmeyer got the boot. There's always a couple of entertaining, interesting contestants every year but they all get dumped long before the finale.

Rasa and Mike are right on target. I hope his "Mama Rose" dad lets David return to high school this fall and allows the guy to enjoy his final year…and then, on to college.

David Cook while not a better singer had a more clear persona which is something David Archuleta at 17 still hasn't figured out. And the rock guy persona was just that – he was a self-admitted word nerd and his performances in the group numbers attests to his high school musical roots. Still congrats to them both. Winning is no guarantee of success afterwards and losing frees you from having to be pigeon-holed for the pop market.

P.S. I agree with Jack Scribe about what should happen but Papa Rose is gonna ride this gravy train into the ground. LeAnn Rimes please call David Archuleta. Educate him – quickly.

In a year we'll be saying, "Hey, what was the name of that guy that won AI in 2008?."
Homogenized to the point of flavorlessness. Let's face it, you're not gonna see someone like Trent Reznor of NIN on AI. Even with a lot of talent, someone like that might scare the denizens of MOR America. We wouldn't want that, now, would we?

Oh, but at least they didn't go for some shitty country singer like Underwood or some phony white soul singer like Hicks or that god-awful queen Aiken (or Gayken, as my idol Kathy calls him. And I know he lost but he still is a prime example of the level of talent on this show.) I'll bet Jennifer Hudson is glad she lost, otherwise she might be waiting tables instead of polishing her Oscar.

Whatever. David Cook's win is emblematic of what a shitty season this has been. TPTB sacrificed whatever credibility they had left (ironically, in an attempt to GAIN credibility), and the end result is the most boring group of semifinalists and finalists in Idol history. The talent, while acceptable, was nowhere near previous seasons. The personality and charisma factors were at an all-time low.

Dom, maybe you just don't like country music. Carrie Underwood's actually pretty awesome in my book and, I think she's maybe the most successful of the AI winners at this point, in regards to album sales.

When I watch David Cook sing, I somehow miss the Orangutan in the Clint Eastwood movies. Why is that? BTW – David Archuleta's not gay, today! American Midol is so like, 2006! Why do we punish ourselves while we watch draino poured into the sinking music industry by British hacks? Even closeted homo Clive Davis can't save this formulaic reality-show torpor with his "Band of Gold". Sorry, kiddies. Carrie Underwood is the best example of this: the worst of the 50s in a country dress.

Dreams crashing down? Puh-leaze. This kid is in a very good spot, having already gotten snapped up by a major record label w/ an existing large fan base.

As for seitan-on-a-stick, retract the claws. Yeesh. I still don't understand why people so snarky about this show are still intent on reading/commenting on blog topics relating to it.

And Alex Sarmiento…worst group of semi-finalists of all time…? Were we even watching the same show? I'm just going to assume you got this show mixed up w/ one of the many international Idol-type competitions. This year was hands-down one of the best groups ever.
