"I come before you today to ask that you once again include strong support for the rights of GLBT people in the Democratic platform, and increase the range of support from the 2004 platform, by explicitly supporting the equality and dignity of transgender people… We ask that the platform continue to support equal rights, benefits and responsibilities for gay and lesbian couples and to oppose any effort to amend the U.S. Constitution to define marriage." - HRC Legislative Director Allison Hewitt testifying today to the DNC's platform drafting committee. Relieving Leah Daughtrey of her duties with the Democratic National Committee would be a reasonable solution.

Perhaps the Democrats should just borrow from the Libertarian Party platform on LGBT rights:

Sexual orientation, preference, gender, or gender identity should have no impact on the rights of individuals by government, such as in current marriage, child custody, adoption, immigration or military service laws. Consenting adults should be free to choose their own sexual practices and personal relationships. Government does not have the authority to define, license or restrict personal relationships.

Brian Miller: Some are just trying to get to "current marriage" which leaves a lot out….

Then, when you read more about the Libertarians, you get the real whacko stuff….
