<blockquote>"Aren't people who speak like this considered terrorists?"</blockquote>

Sorry, but no. Not here. Not in the United States.

Not in a country where Obama and McCain daily compete to make the most bigoted remark about same sex marriage.

Not in the country where the Rev. Jimmy Swaggart, an ordained pentecostal bigot, can threaten to kill any gay man who "looks at me that way" and is not arrested on the spot.

Not in the country where another ordained pentecostal bigot and opponent of SSM, Leah Daughty, COS of the Democratic (sic) National Committee can fire the DNCs LGBT outreach director for homophobic reasons and be defended by the DP, using your political contributions.

Not in the country where a senescent wannabe mass murderer and failed terror bomber like John McCain can pick as his running mate a reactionary creature like Palin, who wants to inflict torture on GLBT children to cure them of the sexuality that sits at the very core of their nature.

Not in a country that can kill over a million Iraqis and call it peace.

<b>Nope. Not gonna happen. So sorry. Those comments are perfectly acceptable to powers that be in the United States, to bigots and racists, and to their apologists. And will be until we build an independent LGBT movement large enough and smart enough to drive them back into the sewers they came from</b>

If Jeremy is #30, Duckie is # 32, and I am # 31, I believe that means I am in a sandwich with my two closest, but not closeted, gay friends. Nobody better tell my wife...

"This Card guy and people like him are the reason I don't read books.Once you've bought one of thier books they have your money and you can't un-buy it."

Dude, you should read books. It's good for your soul. (though reading online is probably just as good)

If you have any Orson Scott Card books in your collection, rather than throwing them away, sell them for the cheap on Amazon. If someone buys your copy instead of the new one, OSC won't get the money for the new book, you won't have it on your shelf as a reminder, and you get some money in your pocket for your trouble.

Jeremy is my husband and he will probably be surprised that I am even making a comment since I don't read books for fun or entertainment. This Card guy and people like him are the reason I don't read books.Once you've bought one of thier books they have your money and you can't un-buy it. So no matter how crazy and far from what you believe in, they are, you have already given them the support they need in the form of cash. How anyone can judge an entire group of people escapes me. I may not agree with the hetro agenda or the fundy's but(clutch your pearls girls!) I still have friends that are both hetro and fundy all I can say is if you look at a picture of this guy and judge soley what you see. He should spend the rest of his life in prison. I mean look at him he's fat , dumpy , old and obviously drives a white van w the windows tinted black and cruises parks trying to lure childeren in to his van with candy and the promise of a puppy at the ned of thier adventure. When we all know when we look into those beady eyes hidden behind wire rimmed glasses the kind of adventure any kid getting in that van is in for. Card is a wacko and a sicko and should spend the rest of his life in prison being ignored by everyone! p.s. Honey I know book burning is wrong so I will use the shredder in the office and then put the trimmins' in the recycle bin at least this way we can do some good with his garbage.

My good friend Jeremy did the eloquent thing (above). I will take the more earthy approach.

Mormons are the 2nd or 3rd most discriminated-against religion in recent history. Other religions assume, probably correctly, that god would not talk to a man named Smith- obviously an alias of some kind.

I am glad tolerance has been a by-product of their abuse.

Mormons want multiple spouses- gays and lesbians want one.

When was the last time we had to rescue children from a group of lesbians and gays that had a fetish for under-age children?

Which religion took forever to recognize blacks as real people, a process they have not finished?

Those who live in glass temples should not throw stones, especially when they just made up a Book of the Bible. After all, who taught god top speak English, n'est pas? And nobody named Smith in the 1800s could speak Hebrew.

I am sure your god will be very proud of you if you ever actually get to stand in front of her. Frankly, I don't think you will ever get out of the bullpen, which is a perfect place for your bigoted opinions.

Wow. I find this really upsetting. Had you asked me 2 minutes ago, I would have said that Card was one of my favorite authors. I really connected with the Ender series. The books talk about the isolation and loneliness of being different, the possibility of forming your own family when your biological family fails you, and the challenges and ultimate strength of learning to coexist with people radically different from yourself. Like I do with a lot of authors whose works have influenced me, I feel like I had a personal relationship with Card. Now I'm feeling betrayed and angry. Rationally, I'd like to say that I can still appreciate the stories and ideas expressed in the books that I have loved. But I'd feel like a traitor to myself and my kind to have another cent of my money go toward a man who says he'd rather start a civil war than allow me to live my life on my terms in peace. Do I throw the baby out with the bathwater?

Orson Scott Card is a repressed homosexual. He wrote an article a number of years ago about homosexuality and it was obvious from his writings that he was clearly repressing his own tendencies. He's just attempting to destroy what he hates about himself.

I've read most of the Ender series and I actually enjoyed them. This just upsets me. I hate it when I find out an artist, author, whatever whose work I like turns out to be a less than ideal human being (in this case a crazy bigot).

Mormons are major secretive Power-brokers in this country like the founding fathers and Stonemasons (and the good Old Evil Vatican and it's New World Order wish) Why would a religion get to break Federal laws but in Utah? Because they are big GOP check-writers. Fictional writers can sometimes believe their own Science Fiction as with this mediocre writer brainwashed generationally, no doubt. Secularism in Government works well in the rest of the Western World.

I cringe when I hear CNN media report of a generic "polygamist cult" removing the children from their families. They never mention it is a Mormon cult as dictated by their founder Joseph Smith. They are just being good Mormon's like this nut. I hope McCain does choose Romney, it will be the downfall to both their evil careers.

Echoing others sentiments, what, exactly, will he do to "overthrow this government" that is his "mortal enemy"? Mitten's already wasted 40 million of his own money in an attempt to just win the Republican nomination and failed; what makes him think that his peculiar brand of Christianity is somehow going to sweep down like a sword upon the unjust, ghettoed as it is in Utah? Hell, right next door the THIRD gay House member was elected to office. Of course such things, which reveal a substantial democratic support for gay rights, does not enter Card's dubious ideology.Of course, if Card wants tto recreate the Utah War between the federal government and Mormons, he can go on right ahead.

His book "Empire" calls for a right-wing uprising against liberals who are bent on a new civil war. I enjoyed much of his Ender's series of sci-fi, but once I read "Empire" I swore I'd never pick up another piece of his work again.

I think he should be reported to Homeland Security for his anti-government threats. At the very least he should be added to the "No Fly" list and kept off commercial aircraft. What might he do if he finds himself on a plane with a Gay/lesbian flight attendant? And what if these gay flight attendants are married to boot. He could try to take over the aircraft. A very dangerous sociopath if you ask me.

All religious people are crazy people. It's just a matter of degree. And Mormons? They're as much a cult as the Scientologists are.

I imagine he means to overthrow the government though the boring and much more tedious (to the rest of us) method of grass-roots organization to flood his nut-job like-thinking candidates into the government.

[I third the call for some sourcing on this, though.]

Um, queerty, you might want to add that this particular writer is extremely well respected (until now). His novel "Ender's Game" is considered a sci-fi classic, and a graphic novel version is coming out soon.

Be sure to boycott it and let folks know this guy's a nutcase.

Card has long called for the re-criminalization of homosexuality and the imprisonment of all GLBT people including people who only have the orientation and those who experimented one time. If he had his way, about 40% of all Americans would spend life in prison just for the GLBT ways.

I suggest Card move to Iran, sounds like he would be a happy camper there.

Of course, Card, to use the technical medical term, is bat-shit crazy.

People who make threats against the government are generally crazy. This type of statement guarantees that there will be a file on him and he will be closely watched in the future to see if he is acting on these threats.

You may find this kind of government monitoring disturbing. However, in the event an action is taken against the government the first thing Congress will inquire about is why an individual wasn't being followed if they had made previous threats against the government. Think of this list as CYA.

The Secret Service is one of the prime entities charged with monitoring suspicious people. This is a good thing to keep in mind before you post your rants, and remember, always post sober.

My first response was to ask that Mitt Romney be asked to respond but I would rather be fair. Even politicians can't be asked to respond to every nut case in their religion, it would be like asking Joe Biden to respond to every utterance of the Catholic League.
