OH SNAP — Ricky Martin twitpics his oceanic adventures, wondering aloud, “Can u believe the color of the water? Puerto Rico baby! Come and visit!” But, wait, did he just blur out the orange timestamp of the photo? What, is he trying to fool us? Because this PR forecast says it’s rainy there right now.

Yeah, It’s The Color of the Water We’re Staring At in Ricky Martin’s Beach Photos

… and a bit of promotion for Puerto Rico.
“For the first time in its more than 20-year history, the 2010 Billboard Latin Music Awards will take place in Puerto Rico, marking the first time the show goes on the road from its traditional Miami home base. The awards, which honor some of the music industry’s most famous Latin stars including Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, Shakira and Paulina Rubio, will be broadcast live on 29th April 2010 from the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum, in San Juan, to over 30 countries worldwide.

I actually would like to go to PR, it’s one of the few touristy places that I haven’t made it to. Does anyone know how their laws treat homos? I don’t vacation in places where my money is more welcome than my partner.
Jerr Bear
@Fitz: Very well stated.
Tony
@Fitz: I’m from PR and go there yearly, there is no different there than in FL, NY or any other state, very gay friendly in PR, especially in San Juan area, lots of things to do.

Fitz
@Tony: I don’t mean “are there gay bars and are people nice to you” as much as “do gay people have civil liberties there”.
Andrew
My God, Ricky is gorgeous – I am afraid I revert back to a teenage twink whenever I see photos of him **sigh** now back to work.

@Fitz: Fitz,
here you go:

Wikipedia has a gay rights section on most countries and territories.
CONVERSATION CHAMBER
Um, Queerity…I think you’re on the verge of becoming a wee bit too obsessed with Ricky Martin now.
Marc
@CONVERSATION CHAMBER: Shut up, there is no such thing as too much Ricky Martin! 😉

Big ups to the MAN who puts those jaws to good use LOL!

Here in P.R. it rains 2/3 of the year but, the mornings are usually sunny. It also depends what beach is that cause sometimes we have horrible weather on the beaches in the north and a extremely sunny days on the beaches on the south of the island. It depends. I should know cause I spent all weekend in Boqueron (one of the most famous beaches here).
wannabegay
yeah, go to puerto rico, where gays and transgender people get killed twice (at least) per year! i’m officially boycotting this country.
NVagboi
Uhhhhh, it’s Puerto Rico…. It’s ALWAYS rainy there! “Storms” usually last about an hour or so at most, then it’s gorgeous again.

PR’s about average on gay rights as the US goes – they’re working on a non-trans-inclusive ENDA, there’s no same sex marriage but no amendments banning it, and sodomy laws were repealed. Hate crimes do occur but are covered under federal hate crimes legislation.
It’s a beautiful place, though. And Ricky Martin being out might improve popular support there for gay rights. A visible contingent of out-and-proud gays spending money couldn’t hurt; poverty rates are very high by US standards, and tourism is highly valued as a source of income.

Go to Puerto Rico and include the Virgin Islands if you can! Did you know that the former Governor of the Virgin Islands is gay! Don’t expect NYC or SF, its still the Caribbean, but since this part of the United States you can be relax more so than say Jamaica! PEACELUVNBWILD!
TommyOC
@The Artist: Yeah… I think many of the posters here, by calling it a “country,” forget that PR is treated as a TERRITORY of the United States and thus subject to any applicable Federal law.
Fitz
@Warren in NY: Thanks Warren, great link. I don’t think I will be spending my money in PR anytime soon. There are too many hot beach towns where I would feel safer.
The Artist
@Fitz: You can feel safe in Puerto Rico. Go and check it out for yourself. PEACELUVNBWILD!
