Republican sex scandal? Must be Monday.
Brown County Wisconsin GOP chair Donald Fleischman stands accused of molesting at least one teenage runaway.
Police went to 37-year old Fleischman’s house on November 19, 2006 and found a 16-year old boy huddled in his closet. The boy wore only a t-shirt and underpants. Police also found a pot pipe.
Less than one month later, the police returned to Fleischman’s house again and, shocker, found the same boy, a runaway from a local shelter.

The teen, now 17, told authorities Fleischman took him to a hotel in Appleton during that time and then to a cabin near Florence for several days before returning to Fleischman’s Allouez home. The boy said Fleischman provided him with beer and marijuana, the complaint said.
The boy told police that when he would go to bed, Fleischman would fondle him and that on one occasion he awoke to find Fleischman at the foot of his bed masturbating.
The boy also tested positive for marijuana.
If convicted of his charges – two counts of child enticement, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a child and a single charge of exposing himself to a child – Fleischman faces 52 years in prison.
The Republican maintains his innocence.

For what its worth…this isn’t a gay sex scandal…its another Republican Pedophilia Scandal (ala Mark Foley). Saying it is a gay sex scandal re-enforces the incorrect stereotype that Pedophilia = Gay Sex and Gay Sex = Pedophilia.
Not that I’m not happy that another hypocritical Republican is embroiled in an embarrassing scandal (I am), but I think we in GLBT community need to correct ourselves and others when we mislabel things because there are many people that still think all homosexuals are pedophiles.

A 16 year old is not a “child” and this is not pedophilia. Pedophilia has to do with pre-pubescent children. This may be a distasteful story, but lusting after young post-pubescent people is stock and trade of most advertising. Pedophilia is a very different horrible tragedy.

Exactly. “Pedophile” is one of those words people like to throw out there just to scare other people, even if it’s a completely inaccurate term to use. Like “terrorist.”

Not according to the law. Pedophilia in most states is equated with the age of consent. Read the linked legal document. Count how many times the 16 year-old is referred to as a Child.
A 37 year-old man having relations with an unwilling 16 year-old is not gay sex. Any attempt to equate to a normal healthy and loving relationship does a huge dis-service to our community.

If this happened over here in Europe it would not even get to court – it would get laughed out of court first.
A 16 year old is not a “boy”, but a grown man, usually fully sexually experienced for a few years by then. And a 16 year old knows 100% whether he wants sausage or fish. Sounds like this one is also a ‘pro’.

Very wrong. An adolescent, but not a grown man. Give the kid a chance to finish going through puberty before calling him a grown man. A grown man has achieved physical and mental maturity. No medical book will tell you that a 16 year-old has reached either state.
And a 16 year old knows 100% whether he wants sausage or fish.
Really? Not all do. And your statement is contrary to the qualitative data we see and read about self-discovery everyday. Most have a inkling or suspicion about sexuality, but 100%? I think not.

Yeh, I’m sure the beer and marijuana supplied by Fleischman had nothing to do with A.C.O.’s state of mind.

Ahhh yes. The popular Europe defense as a mechanism to end all debate. Of course everything is better in Europe and the smarter Europeans can see through abusive relationships like this one are something to laugh about – Cut me a break.
All over the world healthy relationships are always built on a foundation of equality and trust. Defending this relationship as anything but an abuse of power and unhealthy for the adolescent 16 year-old, is simple ignoring the facts of the case that he was a runaway, homeless and needy. This was an unhealthy relationship – period. No person – gay or straight – should be defending it any other way.

You know, we clearly disagree. But I hope we can agree that it is far more productive for the GLBT community to be fighting for the rights for us to get married and achieve equality than it is for us to be fighting for or supporting some 37 year-old guy to have sex with an unwilling 16 year-old run-away who by police accounts was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
