Durrell Watkins declared, "You may now kiss your significant other." And so they did, about 50 couples in all, in what appeared to be a mass wedding. In reality, however, it was more of an affirmation between partners because most of the participants were gay. In Florida and 29 other states, gay couples are not allowed to legally marry. For that reason, the ceremony Sunday at Sunshine Cathedral, a Christian church that welcomes gay and lesbian members, also was a protest against the recently approved Amendment 2. Hm. Just a personal aside, for the sake of putting it out there and to see if others have any preference:
I'm not a big fan of the "you may kiss your significant other" bit. It doesn't have the same catchy tone as the more traditional "you may kiss the bride" and seems much too impersonal.
I did find it quite nice when the minister of one lesbian wedding I went to said "you may kiss your bride," obviously referring to both ladies. I was also at a straight wedding where the minister said "you may exchange a kiss," which I also felt was light and airy. But "you may kiss your significant other"? Yeah, not exactly my cup of tea.

If we're trying to get the straight world to appreciate the sanctity and integrity of our unions, getting hitched after a week doesnt really help.

Our Priestess said "The bridegrooms may now kiss.", which I thought was very old-fashioned and very modern at the same time.
